You get what you pay for !

Scope base from NC Star for the mini 14 ranch rifle series 582 looks good, till you try to install it, the threads Strip very EASILY and the screws are very small. They are fine threads,( I was always told to use coarse threads for tapping in aluminum) and cut large so there is just not much metal holding the screws.I stripped the first screw I tried to finger tighten snug using the short leg of a allen wrench,(If you use the long leg for leverage you will strip the screws) After that I went very lightly. I finished installing it and it holds securely, and sits very low after you cut off about 2" to miss the rear sight. Ruger rings for a 1" scope work GREAT but are rediculous pricey, and not availible for a 30 mm tube scope, but get them if you can use them. I was trying to make a fast change system for a Leatherwood red dot( for deer/ coyotes) and a scope ( for wood chucks/ varmints). For a picatinny type or weaver type for a red dot spend more and get the CG&G mount, you will be glad you did !!!...
Pros:
  • None
Cons:
  • poorly designed and not made to fit a new series mini without cutting
Best Used for:
  • Paperweight

Rail for Mini-14 Ranch Rifle

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner from United States, CO Written on January 13, 2013
This solves a problem with the Mini-14. Great little rifle but it's hard to put on accessories besides a single scope. Most rails on the market are 5-6 inches and won't fit a red dot sight and a scope. This seven inch rail let me do that.
Pros: Works as advertised
Cons: Setup a little awkward but that was expected...

There were 7 short screws and 1 long screw which came with this scope mount. Needless to say, only one of the screws worked and you can guess which one. Don't buy this product...

Excellent rail, excellent price

by Legacy Reviewer, from United States, WA Written on March 21, 2012
I am really happy with this rail for my mini 14 ranch rifle. I needed it to act as a base for a 26 oz scope. It holds it solid. It even has a cut out for where your peep site fold down, so you don't have to remove that. For the money, you can't beat this base.
Pros: attatches quickly and solid...

The BEST scope mount for the Mini-14...

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner from United States, NV Written on December 14, 2008
Since I've bought my Mini-14 Ranch Rifle, this is the third scope mount I've bought, (the first was a B-Square side mount, the second was the ruger scope rings). It is by far the best, most stable, and most adaptable I've seen for the Mini-14 Ranch. You can put a 3x9 variable scope on for longer range targets, take it off fairly quickly and put on a red-dot for close in targets.
Pros: Easy to install, very stable
Cons: It's somewhat long...
