Legacy Reviewer's Review of Night Optics PVS7 Gen 3 Mil-Spec Night Vision Goggle

These goggles have quite frankly exceeded my expectations. They are very high quality and I am very glad I went forward with the purchase. A couple of points of note you may not know when buying:

1. All NVG have black spots which is perfectly normal(they look like dirt spots on the lenses). I have 2 which are very minor and do not affect the functionality whatsoever. Search google images for nvg black spots and pictures will show what I mean.

2. Focusing: NVG require focusing when moving around. If you want to read a book (why not?) and then look out in the window you will have to adjust the focus. Quite easy though it takes a little bit to get used to when walking around.

3. Usage in light- My complaint on the instructions is there is little/no detail on the effects of bright lights (street lights for example) when looking around. From reading these goggles should have about 10,000 hrs of usage, the more you look at bright lights the lower the overall expected life expectancy of the goggles. I doubt I will ever get close.

4. Usage with weapons- You can't see iron sights and the target as all items have to be in focus. Night Sights can be seen but look like three large orbs that do aim well. From a focus perspective you can not have the front and rear in focus at the same time even on a pistol. Red dots (some) are NVG compatible and can be seen. Depends on the make/model. Cheek welds are difficult with the goggles on. Most aiming with goggles is done by way of an IR laser pointer attached to a rifle or handgun. These can be very pricey but are worth it.

If you are on the fence just do it...Optics planet had the best price, by far, I have seen. Definitely worth buying from though there is some export paperwork you will have to fill out. Other sites may sell used goggles where you do not know the hours used.
Pros: Fantastic functionality, night is as bright as day
Cons: Instructions are military issue; not the best but quite detailed
