I returned mine

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner from United States, TN Written on July 15, 2014
I have an earlier model Night Owl that puts this one to shame. I found the image very dim, probably because at 4x magnification, less light reaches the image screen. Compared to my earlier model, this one is too dim to use.
Pros: Well Constructed
Cons: Dim Image...

Works GREAT

by Legacy Reviewer, from United States, WI Written on December 12, 2013
Takes awhile fiddling with the monitor screen focus and the lens focus but once it's dialed in it's crystal clear at 75-100 yards. With some snow on the ground or a quarter to half moon can see out to 500 yards or more. In total darkness the I/R works good out to 100 yards or so - you may want to but a spot light or another illuminator. For the price and size it is well worth money. I thought it would be like looking thru a "Starlight" scope like in the John Wayne movie and it's way better than expected. It's the real deal and considering it's only GEN 1 it exceeded my expectations for a GEN 1 device.
Pros: Great Price and much better optics than expected for Gen 1
Cons: Can't see thru brush and trees...

Not worth the money

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner from United States, KY Written on October 30, 2012
If you turn on the IR, you might be able to see your feet so you don't fall. Other than that, you can't see 20 feet in an open field.
Pros: It turns on
Cons: You can't see anything....

used to be in the military and I had to used NVG's a lot as part of my job, this set of nvg's work extremely well for the price and quality, obiously you are not getting an army issue set of nvg's that are meant to take a beating and have better electronics, but this unit is cheap and it works, u can see at night no problems, extremely impressed i highly recommended u can see pretty far about 500 meters.
Pros: cheap, easy to set up, crisp clear image
Cons: bettery c123,(expensive) AA could be better long run, no strap included, no mount capabilities....

Night Owl NexGen 4x

by Legacy Reviewer, from United States, WA Written on January 31, 2012
For a 1st generation night vision product, this is a very fine investment. I pick up a pretty decent range, and the optics and night vision sensitivity are good enough that I can pick up quite a lot of movement and activity when I even take this device out with me when I go hunting or on camping trips. Overall, you get a lot of night vision bang for your buck!
Pros: Good Optics, Nice Sensitivity for Night Vision...
