I have property in west Texas over run with feral hogs and coyotes which have become sensitive to spot lights due to the amount of night hunting them. This is used as a locator, I actually shoot them with rifle mounted lights which works.
Unit in normal mode as a starlight scope is outstanding, I couldn't be more pleased. In IR mode is seems to have a very good usable range to about 125 yards, maybe farther but we have thick underbrush where I use it.
My only disappointment was my misunderstanding of IR. I had assumed there would be heat signatures for some reason like FLIR and that IS NOT the case with these units. The IR works like a flashlight on the monitor.
I got 4X which will work nicely when I get to hunt more open country. In brushy country where I hunt now the field of view is too narrow, feels more like 10X binoculars or rifle scope. 2X would have been more appropriate to my uses in brushy country to widen the field of view. Overall I enjoy it very much.
Pros: Accomplishes what some much more expensive night vision equipment would at a fraction of the cost
Cons: At 4X it was actually over powered for my use. Not products fault, I didn't realize how narrow the field of view at that magnification would be.
