Mighty Fine

by Dee Doyle, from United States, GA Written on March 23, 2015
I would be inclined to very much in favor of this Prostaff scope. This is the 6th Nikon that I own, from a fixed power for my AR, and a 3-9x40 on my 22LR, 30-06, and 243.This optic was perched on a Ruger No.1 Light Sportster chambered in 270.

I have BDC reticles in all my scopes, and they are all effective out to and past 300yrds..( the 22 to about 200). I don't have a desire for LONG RANGE so I have not pushed to limits... These scopes for the money are spot on.....(pun intended)....

great budget scope

by Tommy, from United States, OH Written on March 1, 2015
This is Great scope for the money. Sturdy construction and well built, optical quality is amazing. I also have a leupold and would say that optical clarity is on par. For the money it doesn't get better. The capped turrets are finger adjustable with possible clicks and zero resetable....
Pros:
  • Great visibility in low light.
  • Optical Carity and price
Cons:
  • nothing
Best Used for:
  • Hunting/Target

Decent scope but has drawbacks

by Terry, from United States, TN Written on January 21, 2015
I recommend this scope for target shooting but not for hunting. I rated the scope three stars because of the very small field of view, the length and weight. For hunting groundhogs, prairie dogs, etc. it would be fine but for animals that may be moving it will make locating them in the scope more difficult than it needs to be. I intended to replace a 30+ year old Bauch and Lomb 4-12x40 with this scope. After receiving and comparing to the old scope I immediately noticed the restricted field of view and greater overall length. While researching the scopes in my price range(Retired now and can't afford Leupold VXII's and VXIII's) the Vortex Diamond Back 4-12x40 appeared to have a much larger field of view while being a couple inches shorter and lighter. It was about the same price and has great reviews. I kept the Nikon and ordered the Vortex for comparison. The Vortex is superior in every way in a side by side comparison. Zeroed the rifle with the Vortex today(Jan20,2015) and while I had it on the sand bags I compared it to the Nikon, a Leupold VXII 3-9x40 and a Leupold VXIII 3.5-10x50. The Nikon is not bad in clarity and brightness but the larger field of view with the Vortex makes it seem much brighter and sharper. The Vortex is much clearer and brighter than the Leupold VXII(an older scope) and the equal of the VXIII. Again, these results were logged while looking through each scope side by side. I feel certain that the Nikon Monarch scopes would equal the Vortex but at a m...

Product delivered

by kmurray96, from United States, NC Written on January 16, 2015
Turrets are a size for easy alignment with the level. Mounting the scope on the previously purchased Nikon M-223 scope mount was painless/brainless/quick. With my laser aiming device, I had this puppy mounted and zero'd in less than an hour, with distractions....
Pros:
  • Low weight, great turrets
Cons:
  • None
Best Used for:
  • Bustin' hogs, target/plinking

Duh! Its ok to feel dumb

by Jim, from United States, WA Written on January 6, 2015
OK, I've been around for a while and sometimes think I'm smarter than I really am... Read this review to the end to understand how really smart I am.
Received my scope and popped it on my rifle held it up and sighted out the sliding glass door across the river. Spots, tiny spots appeared, thinking the scope had dust on the one of the lens I cleaned both ends carefully as the instructions instructed and looked again. The spots still remained, immediately thought of everything I would have to do, package scope back up, drive to Post Office, ship scope back to OpticsPlanet, wait for weeks to get another scope and hope the next one was good.
Then I looked out the glass door without the scope and noticed how dirty the door was. I opened the door and looked through the scope again and got the brightest, clearest sight picture I personally have ever had.
Thanks OpticsPlanet for fast shipping, good packaging, and for a great scope.

Sincerely,
Jimmy M. Stone
P.S
I cleaned my glass sliding door, got kudos from my wife she thought I was being helpful around the house....

Nikon Prostaff 4-12X40 BDC

by Simmo, from New Zealand, Wellington Written on October 26, 2014
What a lovely clear scope. Nikon's Spoton software makes the BDC reticle a great choice for somebody who needs to shoot over distances with precision. This scope is comparable with my more expensive scopes and the positive click turrets make adjustments super easy. My only regret is that I didn't buy two of them ! I can now confidently shoot rabbits over 400 metres away with my 300WSM. Thanks Nikon. Bill S...
Pros:
  • Clarity at extreme distances
Cons:
  • Too cheap
Best Used for:
  • Deer Hunting

Nikon ProStaff Review

by Larry, from United States, FL Written on August 30, 2014
Excellent optics, mechanics and appearance. The light transmission in a 1" tube is remarkable. Add the Nikon app. (Spot-On) and you can't beat it for the money. I would recommend the ProStaff 4-12X to anyone....

It's great.

by Legacy Reviewer, from United States, WA Written on April 29, 2014
Mounted this scope on a howa 1500 in 308. This scope is great. Finally had a chance to head to the range and I wasn't disappointed. It was a bargain at the sale price. I'm definitely looking forward to deer season. ...
