Great Gift for Sailing Enthusiasts

by PaGameNews, from United States, MD Written on August 29, 2014
I actually bought these as a gift for friends that are serious sailboaters. My decision to buy this make and model, the Nikon Ocean Pro with compass, was based on numerous other positive comments made in online forums. These are probably about the best "entry level" to "mid-priced" marine binoculars on the market. They don't have the reputation of Ziess or Swarovski, but these are the kind of field glasses that can get tossed around, beaten-up and otherwise abused, and the owner won't have any regrets, as they might have if they dropped their thousand-plus dollar Austrian glasses into sea.

I also want to comment on the great service from OpticsPlanet.com. I placed my order online and it was shipped the next business day. FedEx tracking information was emailed to me with updates on the progress. I like the idea of being able to anticipate when a package will be delivered so that I can be home to look for it....
Pros:
  • High Quality at Affordable Price
Cons:
  • Somewhat Large
Best Used for:
  • Everyday Marine Use

Nice bin, good contrast and generous eye relief. Didn't like the small focus knob, but is nice balanced and doesn't feel like very heavy...

Seems like a good product. You/Nikon should include some sort of quick reference scale/chart for using the range/distance finder (doing the math every time is a little cumbersome). Plus, the example is meters instead of feet....

Overall good bino, but could be defenitely better at this price. Abit bulky and heavy. No compass and no simple bino strap, only floating one which is not convenient for general usage...

Good Value and Waterproof

by Legacy Reviewer, Written on December 13, 2009
These are excellent binoculars for the money. They present a clear image in a wide range of conditions. The waterproof enclosure and grippy rubber coating on the exterior make for worry-free use. The inclusion of a flotation strap and padded bag is nice as well. A non-flotation strap would have been nice though however that is easy to find separately for not much money. ...
