I own many different brands of scopes, some a lot more expensive than the Nikon Monarch's. My son and I traded rifles one evening on a deer hunt. His rifle has a Nikon Monarch on it and my rifle has a Kahles on it. The Monarch performs MUCH better in low light conditions...
Pros: Price point, crisp & clear high quality optic

I have several rifle scope that I use on my other rifles. This is the first expensive rifle scope that I have purchased. And there is a difference. Its the options and the easy to use features. Most of all, it is the clarity. At 200yds it is clear as day. I am glad that I didn't get the BDC scope (8425). Once you understand how that scope works, you wouldn't either.I am very pleased with my 8424. Yes, you do get what you pay for!
Pros: Easy to use options
Cons: You have to pay for it...

Terrible in low light!

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner from United States, AL Written on November 24, 2010
This scope produces a crisp clear image during the day & the BDC reticle makes long range shooting a breeze! DO NOT count on this scope to perform in low light conditions! Even with a full moon so bright that I could still see the field with my naked eye, I COULD NOT see ANYTHING through the scope! Sad but true. Even if I would have been able to see my target, there is no hope in putting the crosshair, which disappears in low light, on the kill zone! Mounting this scope can also be tricky. If it is not mounted perfectly level on a perfectly level rifle, the BDC reticle is useless. I recommend mounting this yourself using a vice & a small torpedo level. This way you know it is right & your not relying on someone else who is more concerned with your money than whether or not the job is done right! Would not recommend if you do most of your shooting at first & last light!
Pros: BDC reticle
Cons: TERRIBLE in low light!...
Would recommend: No
