Mike's Review of Nikon P-223 3x32 BDC Carbine Rifle Scope
As expected with other Nikon products I own, the P-223 scope is excellent, but I had a major problem with one of the two aluminum mounts that came with the scope. The first mount slid on my AR-15 Picatinny rail with no problem.
The second mount wouldn't slide on. I held the two mounts upside down to compare the gaps and one was noticeably narrower than the other. Since the mounts are made of aluminum, I clamped the defective mount in my padded vice and used a file to open the gap wide enough to allow it to slip over the rail.
After about ten minutes of trial-and-error filing and fitting, I finally opened up the gap to the correct width. I had some touch-up aluminum bluing to use on the shiny-filed aluminum, so after mounting the scope on the rifle, my amateur gunsmithing efforts were properly hidden from public view.
Yes, I could have sent the defective mount back for a replacement, but I figured I could fix the problem myself. The only thing that concerns me is if I received a defective mount that passed quality control, others may have, or have had, the same problem.
