Nikon 16-48x65

by Legacy Reviewer, Written on September 23, 2010
I have had this scope for 2 years. I used it on sheep, deer and elk hunts. I bought the kit and I find the tripod adiquate and light I mostly back pack. The window mount is very usefull too. Optics are clear and light gathering is very good. It does not focus well at the high end. This makes it almost unuseable in the mountains. The lens caps fall off frequnetly and the hood falls off too. I have a 10x20 set of Nicon Binoculars that I have had for 30+ years and I find this is just as good as the spotting scope. I am not too happy with this spotting scope. I have quit using the scope and it now sits in the case in the closet.
Pros: Nice Kit
Cons: Dificult focus...

Nikon Prostaff Waterproof 16-48x65mm Spotting Scope

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner from United States, WY Written on December 7, 2009
The threads on my Zeiss spotting scope broke during deer season. I chose the Nikon after reading numerous reviews on spotting scopes. I made the right choice. The Zeiss is not worth 3 times the money the Nikon cost. Plus the Nikon is smaller and lighter. If you can't evaluate an animal with the Nikon then it's too far to go after to harvest. The Zeiss will stay in the truck. The Nikon will be in my daypack with a good tripod.
Pros: The best spotting scope for the money
Cons: The clarity is a little fuzzy at 48 power but good from 16-45...

The peep sight feature is very nice to have on this scope. It allows the user to lock on the target immediately. It's a very touch, sleek, lightweight scope, good for high-activity use. Lenses have great light and if never fogs up even in the worst conditions....
