Bought for my SW MP15-22 and clarity is superb. Easy setup, but variable magnification is stubborn to adjust. I imagine this is to keep the magnification in check for larger calibers... not an issue for my 22. The 40mm would barely clear the picatinny rail with Leupold quick release mounting rings. I had to buy a riser to allow room for the supplied Nikon lens protector to clear the 40mm end. I recommend buying a scope coat if you have tight clearance, but want to protect the lens.
