I was really impressed with the crisp image of the scope compared to several Leupold VX3 scopes I have tested. I thought the Nikon was better. I have only fired a hundred rounds with it on the gun but it holds zero and adjusted 1/4 minute as advertised. I have not evaluated the BDC on distant targets yet. Hunting with it I do not like having all of the lines inside for quickly aquiring targets. I have only used this a few months and may need to spend more time with it to train my eye to its use.
Not worth the dough

I got this because of the Nikon name and that is a mistake when it comes to lower line scopes of a popular name. What really made me laugh was I could see a screw when looking through the eyepiece! Overall Optics are so so but not to bright when the sun went down. Amd like I said, a very narrow FOV. It did set up OK and I was zeroed within a few shots. I didn't perform a box test. But, for the money I would go with a Burris full field II or Swift Premier. A bottom of the line product with a top of the line name lost it's luster with me!

I have three rifles equipped with Nikon ProStaff scopes now, two with Nikoplex reticles, and one with a BDC reticle. They are all fantastic scopes, and are almost unbeatable for the money. Are they rugged? Yes. One of mine has stood up to over a year of abuse on a hot .45-70 (read: extremely heavy recoil) and another has been fitted on a rather punchy 7mm Rem Mag for quite some time as well, and they both hold zero like no other. The optics are just as remarkable... Bright and crystal clear with a good amount of eye relief (these are better than a lot of $250+ scopes I've owned, in fact). Adjustments are a cinch but very refined feeling. Overall I give the ProStaff 3-9x40 an A+.
