Pros: Do what they claim to do
Cons: weak battery compartment contacts that break
Would recommend: yes

These are great binoculars for boating - in the Gulf of Mexico where we fish, regular binoculars are worthless as it is usually too rough. But these do the trick. Pricey but they work - that is until the little metal battery tabs/contacts break. This has been reported on other boating forumns like "thehulltruth" I was told by Nikon that it is not covered under warranty and the replacement part is $55 plus shipping. Mine broke when they were about 1.5 years old. Not nice.

Pros: The best view on land or water. Outstanding product
Cons: They are heavier than normal binoculars
Would recommend: yes

Absolutely the best pair of binoculars that I have used. The stabilized feature makes it so easy to use the 14X40 range. I use them to look at boats and whales in the Pacific Ocean from my house. Nikon makes a high quality product that exceeded my expectations.
Poor service support

I purchased Nikon Stabileyes 14x40s less than two years ago. When they work, they are great. Unfortunately, mine quit working all together. I sent them to Nikon for repair. After almost one month, I was told they were going to be replaced. A month later, I still don’t have them and according to Nikon, they are out of stock and no one in the company that the service department has acess to has any idea when they will be available. I spent a small fortune on these and Nikon’s attitude is really frustrating. I would shop for a different brand (and will probably end up spending another small fortune if Nikon is unable to provide a replacement soon.

I'm very impressed with these binoculars. I've had some very nice and some very expensive (often overpriced) binoculars before, but these are by far the best for serious boaters. I'm still amazed by how steady they are, even on rugh waters. Well worth the price.
