I bought this case for my S&W M&P10 .308 rifle - 40 inches long. Overall, this is a very very well made case - better than a Boyt I've got for a shotgun.
The webbed carrying handles are strong.
There are 2 zipper pulls (nice touch) that run smooth.
The zipper runs a bit under the case on each side so you can easily fold the case open like a clamshell.
My gun from bottom of the mag to top of scope is 11 inches tall; fits easily into the rifle compartment with no stress on the scope or zippers.
There are no restraining straps in the rifle compartment but when the case is closed, the rifle doesn't move much.
The storage compartment is padded and big.
The 4 magazine compartments are mostly 3 inches wide - one is a tad less. I have three 3 inch wide .308 20 round mags that are curved just a bit. I can just squeeze them into the compartments easily if I leave one of the 4 compartments empty; no big deal, there is always the storage compartment.
The sling is attached to the back of the case. The 2 mounts are halfway down each side. This means that when you sling the shoulder pad over your shoulder, the case takes a verticle position on your side - guess this means you won't have to worry about getting through a door. I don't plan on using the sling but it is definitely strong.
Everything about this case if well engineered and strong. I would definitely buy another when needed.
Pros: Strong with adequate padding
Cons: Magazine Compartments tight but I have .308 mags
