Peltor ComTac II are really nice ears

by Legacy Reviewer, from United States, WA Written on February 14, 2012
This is a great pair of ears and you won't regret spending slightly over $300 for these.

I have had the chance to compare these to Peltor 6S and the Howard Leight Impact Sports and I must say there is a big difference in quality and function of the unit. The 6S and Impact Sports are great value for the money but the sensitivity of the ComTac II becomes very apparent when doing side by side comparisons. I also thought the ComTacs were more comfortable. The ear cups seem a little softer and conform to my ear a little better.

A buddy of mine is a First Sargeant and these ears are what he and his team use daily. They claim these are some of the best out there and my small side by side comparison supports his experience.
Pros: They work great
Cons: None yet...

not like my tacpros

it has an annoying clicking sound as it attempts to attenuate louder sounds. The attenuation seems to continue after the sound quits so that I have a noticeable near-dead spot that remains for half a second to a second or so. The click is loud enough that I can't tell the difference between the sound of somebody dropping something or cocking a hammer. I don't think this is normal since I also own a TacPro and it attenuates loud sounds just great: no clicks, no dead spots. I did send it in to peltor. They said they replaced the board but it didn't fix the problem
Pros: great with normal sounds
Cons: makes a loud and unexpected click when attenuating...

Simply the Best

I wore these the first time during a sporting clays tournament. During the tournament came a rainstorm and I was completely drenched. The Comtac shut
itself off (later I figured this had to be a safety feature) and I could not get it to turn back. After I got home and stripped the ears of the removable ear pads, water poured out of the cups where the electronics are housed. Naturally, I thought "there's $270 down the drain - literally". I let the ears dry over night and in the morning I installed the batteries and the ears worked just like they did out of the box. Seeing as how our military uses the same ears, I had hoped they were a little more "weather friendly". Turns out they are. Just the same, I wouldn't want to get caught in another storm wearing them. I originally bought these for an AR-15 tactical training class and I have no problems with interference on the buttstock. Great for hunting as well....
