Really like that the ear muffs fold into themselves. The foam is kind of hard to pop off. Would be nice if there was an LED light to indicate if the speakers were on. Overall, great hearing protection! I've had the microphone volume all the way up while shooting. The gun fire wasn't really amplified and I could understand the people I was talking to very easily!

Pros:  Compactness and quality electronics
Cons:  Headband adjustment is not as smooth as I prefer
Would recommend:  yes

The Peltor Tactical 6S Hearing Protector (97044) interested me because of its features: electronic hearing protection in a compact design. Compactness is why I chose the 6S over the 7S. During initial use I was pleased to discover that the earmuffs are not bulky at all and were lighter than I thought. This added to overall comfort, especially with hours of use. Moreover, when the 6S is folded for storage it takes up very little space. The installation of batteries into the earmuffs was not difficult at all. Access to the electronics requires a deliberate pull of the soft ear cuffs, which may worry some first-time users, but the construction is durable enough to easily handle this. I have never dropped the 6S, so I can not speak to its resilience towards greater abuse. Attenuation of impulse noise is very quick and generally effective. The attenuation is on a per-ear basis, so if the source is closer to one ear, then that ear will have greater, independent attenuation compared to ...

Pros:  Comfortable and quite effective
Cons:  A bit pricey
Would recommend:  yes

Randy wrote:

These are by far the best ears I have used for shooting. Easy to adjust to your head, and they stay adjusted. They are very effective in responding to the bullet being fired and you barely here the actual shot. Yet when there are no gunshots, you can here people and things around you like you didn't have the ears on.

Author: jahunte (verified customer) , Handgun and shotgun shooter, from Albuquerque on Dec 7, 2009
Pros:  Lightweight, easy to use, effective for powerful handguns
Cons:  Requires earmuff removal to access batteries
Would recommend:  yes

jahunte wrote:

These are great hearing protectors for handgun practice at the gun range. The Pelcor silences the gun blast yet it amplifies ambient noises and voices so that you can communicate with them on. Great for hunting and listening for animal noises while in the woods.

Author: jrt from Prescott, AZ on Mar 25, 2008
Pros:  Fits well. Very good noise reduction rating (NRR).
Cons:  Peltor uses 1980's vintage electronics.
Would recommend:  no

jrt wrote:

After a loud impulse noise, like a gunshot, Peltor's electronics supress amplification for more than a second! This makes hearing range commands or other normal-level sounds difficult, expecially in noisy environments, like indoor firearm ranges. Most other manufacturer's hearing protectors regain full amplification of (moderate level) sound in milliseconds.
