Best one out there

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner Written on December 19, 2013
Hands down the best spotting scope out there. Nightforce, Leupold, all others can learn from Pentax when it comes to spotting scopes. Just the simple fact that eyepieces can be changed out is already a huge advantage over all others.
Pros: Eyepiece Options, Clarity, Reach

I needed a scope that can see bullet holes in paper targets at 300 to 500 yards. With the 20X to 60X zoom eyepiece set around 40X, 300 yard targets are clear and seeing the holes is easy. At 200 yards, even .22 holes are clear. The PF-80ED is a great scope. Not cheap like the Russian and Chinese scopes on the market, but not outrageously priced like some of the European scopes either. Well worth the money and OpticsPlanet is a great company to deal with.
Pros: Excellent optics, balanced well
Cons: Hard to mount on tripod with Protective case attached...

Great scope

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner from United States, CA Written on July 10, 2010
This scope is crystal clear with no observable chromatic aberration out to 300 yds, the maximum range I have used it so far.
Pros: Clear view. Good eye relief. Wide zoom range
Cons: Heavy, had to add weight to my Freeland tripod....

Pentax Spotter

by Legacy Reviewer, from United States, CA Written on May 15, 2010
I was skeptical when I took a chance on this scope. I had previously looked through a Leica 77mm scope and I new what I wanted to see. At first I was concerned by the amount of heat wave I was getting above 30x. However, if you read the reviews you will see that any of the Euros will have problems in warm weather. I finally got up in the hills with 50 degree temps and WOW! I put it on a doe at about 800yds. I could see where her hair was roughed up from moving through the brush. Sold! I was also worried about quick acquisition with the angled eyepiece. No problem. Also makes it much easier to share your view with a buddy. Size and weight are the only drawbacks.
Pros: Image and Construction
Cons: Size and Weight...

I have looked threw some of these top name spotting scope. The article I found was right this Pentex will give you a great view for your money at $600 to $800 less. I got very good price at Optic Planet. They will match the compition.

Definitely a Great Scope for under $1000

by Legacy Reviewer, from United States, WA Written on November 29, 2007
Overall it's an awesome scope, its amazing how much light it can pull in even in low-light situations. But as always, when you have 80mm, though it gives you a lot of light, it makes the scope pretty large and heavy. If you're interested in using it to pretty keep it in your home I highly recommend it, but if your more the type to take it along with you on hikes or other situations, I might recommend something a bit smaller and lighter, which will then lead to a higher price if you want the same quality.
Pros: Awesome optics, very clear, bright image even in low light
Cons: Large...
