Plano double scoped w/wheels

I spent time researching rifle cases for a particular weapon. The Plano 52" fits the purpose in size and durability for the intended use. The use was simply for travel to and from the range and occasional camping trips to a more rugged area than the range. I have no intention of traveling by air with the rifle as I believe that the conveyor belts for any airline can do great damage to a case, no matter the construction. I have personally seen photos of a metal rifle case after being bent from a malfunctioning airline conveyor belt. In my opinion, if you must travel with your expensive rifle for the purpose of hunting game, travel by car and save yourself the heartache of damaging your prize possession. I doubt that the airline will fully reimburse you for the pricey metal case or your prized rifle. But, if you are looking for a durable case that does not weight a ton to accommodate those longer rifles, the Plano 52" is a great purchase for the price. The width also allows for the scope to remain on the rifle while seated within the foam packing material. Hey! What did you expect? I'm a girl. Gotta go for light weight and practicality as well a bargain....

secure and airline safe

by Andrew, from United States, MT Written on October 13, 2014
I ordered this case online in order to transport a recent rifle purchase home. The case arrived on the date specified and far sturdier than I expected. I was a bit concerned about the 26lbs of case, but transporting only a single scoped rifle I knew I had weight to spare. When I arrived at the airport, the check in desk attendents and baggage check folks were impressed with the case and happily put it through inspection. It arrived with my other checked baggage and I retrived it from security with filght paperwork in hand. No fuss, no muss. I highly recommend this case for airline use....

Really nice case

by Milo, from United States, CA Written on September 9, 2014
Case is solid but pretty heavy. I fit a Marlin 795 with scope and a WWII era Mauser, but JUST barely. I can't see how two scoped rifles would fit. Still, no complaints and the shipping from OpticsPlanet was extremely fast....
Pros:
  • Very solid and secure
Cons:
  • Heavy
Best Used for:
  • Travel

Not Exactly As Pictured

by Frank, from United States, SC Written on August 29, 2014
I have several Plano cases which I use for light transport only. The image for this case does not show the absence of foam above the wheel housings. Probably not an issue for most users. Just be aware that there will not be foam above the housings.
I bought this for a Savage 110BA. Rather than doing the smart thing and measure the length of the rifle, I believed the number published on the Savage arms site. Apparently their measurement did not include the muzzle break. The rifle, fitted with a NightForce 5.5-22x scope will JUST fit. OK for transporting to the range, but not for handing over to baggage handlers. The alternative would be the Pelican 1770 which handles the 110BA perfectly but also costs 3x more.
So, the case is fine for your standard sized rifles and, from my 30 years of using Plano cases, a good value....
Pros:
  • Good case for the money
Cons:
  • None
