Effective but fragile

by Legacy Reviewer, from United States, WA Written on May 25, 2014
I need ear protection that lasts while bouncing around in my gun bag and truck. I don't have patience for a product that breaks this easily plus I had to pay for the repair and now I am afraid to use them lest they fall apart again
Pros: The noise reduction is tremendous
Cons: the head band snaps incredibly easy and the manufacturer's warrantly is only good if the itme is bought directly from the manufacturer...

Best NRR rating but not perfect

by Legacy Reviewer, Written on March 21, 2014
Overall the best hearing protection I own but not as happy with them as I thought I'd be for several reasons. I don't like the head band adjustment setup and the tension is overkill. They are comfortable for short periods only. They have great noise reduction but the sound quality of the amplification is not as natural as my $40.00 Howard Leights. My bad but I keep forgetting to switch off the independent controls and there is no auto off like with the much cheaper HLs. Not so bad other than the batteries for these are not your good ole AA or AAAs but need several of a more expensive nebulous one I can't even remember the number for. I'm happy with them in general but I keep my several HLs nearby for backup..... I own three pair and I could buy 6 pair of the HL for the same cost as the Pro-Ears GS1-DPM. I take weekly shooting instruction so active hearing protection is important and with the GS1s I don't feel the need to run ear plugs under the muffs like I sometimes do with the HLs. If you have a big checkbook and can live with the cons I do think the are the best overall and I do wear them over several other choices I have.
Pros: 33 NRR, independent volume control, input jack
Cons: not the best headband for adjust and comfort, no auto off, expensive, sound quality poor, uncommon battery...

VERY BRITTLE PLASTIC BAND

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner Written on January 6, 2012
I was really liking this headset until this happened. If the band was a flexible piece of metal this review would be different. My head isn't that big either.
Pros: This headset worked better than I expected until it broke.
Cons: The plastic used in the head band is very brittle and snapped about 1 inch above the fork for the ear muff. This is in the area for adjustment and obviously a weak area....

Best hearing protection headset

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner from United States, WA Written on January 6, 2010
This hearing protection is by far the best one I have ever owned. Great item from an outstanding vendor--I couldn't be happier with both!

After buying several other brands and suffering from "ringing ears" while shooting in my indoor range, I decided to invest money in this set. I am delighted with the result of this investment. These are comfortable to wear, buffer noise exceedingly well while allowing you to hear normal conversation. I fact, the set can amplify human hearing and offer great direction specific detection.

I couldn't be happier with this purchase. I would also like to commend Optics Planet for a smooth transaction, super fast shipping and excellent price.
Pros: Best noise reduction, best ability to hear audio, great shopping experience, it's expensive but it's worth every cent (you get what you pay for)...

Pro Ears Mag Gold (Black)

by Legacy Reviewer, Written on September 24, 2009
I definitely could hear commands from instructors and comments from peer students during marksmanship class. The ear protection was outstanding as well. Others I have used would "clip" part of words when a gun was fired. Any one will benefit if they can afford it. Those who instruct daily must by this product, regardless of cost. For constructiion engineers at a loud site the Pro Mag Gold would be needed if conversation was needed with workers.
Pros: best I have found for hearing conversation in marksmanship class
Cons: Pricey if you do not need to hear commands while shooting...

Pro-ears Gold

by Legacy Reviewer, from United States, WA Written on April 12, 2009
These ear muffs are freaky good. After wearing other types of electronic ear muffs I took the plunge and bought pro-ears Gold Muffs. No clipping and my ears have never had sound bad enough to make me wince reach my ears. All others I have had and worn don't work well when your back is turned to the noise. Price just kills me though.
Pros: Best I have ever had, Very comfortable
Cons: Price .. took me forever to take the plunge due to price...
