Pros:  Waterproof, windproof and with two layers of good looking nomex protection
Cons:  No insulation to speak of, stiff and noisy fabric, expensive
Would recommend:  yes

For any veterans who've ever been issued an authentic CWU-36 or CWU-45 nomex (aramid) flight jacket, the styling and layout of Propper's MCPS jacket will look very familiar. To a large extent, that's where the similarities end, however. Whereas the CWU series jackets have a soft if not somewhat sheeny exterior feel, the Propper MCPS is more of a thin, relatively stiff feeling shell. The Goretex core sandwiched between the Kevlar reinforced nomex outer layer and inner nomex knit layer are fused together to seem as one. Taped seams are clearly visible on the inside of the jacket much in the style of a high end technical shell from Arcteryx, Mountain Hardwear or a similar brand. Propper's sizing chart seems to be fairly accurate. I have a 50" chest and the XL is a good fit. The arms in particular are very generously cut leaving ample room for layering. There are no interior pockets save for a small storage pouch for the snap-on rain hood. Though the pictures don't show it, there is also Velcro on the left shoulder for your flag patch. All in all, the jacket fits well, looks great and my initial impression is that the materials and construction are top notch. I certainly won't be disappointed, however, if the fabric loses some of its stiffness with time. A washing may help with this, but I haven't gotten that far yet. The price may obviously present an obstacle for some, as well.
