Best drunk purchase ever

by Legacy Reviewer, from United States, WA Written on March 20, 2014
This thing is well worth the money. The IR light that is attached is good but the streamlight IR light that I bought to accessorize it with is unreal. I was considering buying the doubler attachments for it from the guy in Portugal but after using the nv and streamlight together I figured out I'm not going to want to drag a hog back from the distance that is available to me now
Pros: Clarity, weight and size
Cons: No lens cleaner...

Good quality for the money

I use a lot of different night vision equipment for feral hog control. I was attracted to this unit because of the day/night compatibility, and from what I had seen, it's capability at night. I must say, it is on par with gen 2 systems, as it is far better than any gen 1 system. However, it is not quite on par with gen 3+ systems (I own and use gen 3 with ITT pinnacle tubes). One thing that is note worthy is that the image quality itself is not as sharp as traditional night vision, particularly the 3+ systems. For example, I cannot read a license plate from 50 yards, whereas a 3+ you can very easily. That being said, this unit really shines in that you can take it out in broad daylight, sight it in, and then take it out at night and it performs equally well. Traditional night vision can be used during the day, but only with lens caps and other limiting setups. As the scene gets darker, the ccd camera starts putting out more and more noise, as one would expect. Like all night vision though, you have to have some ambient light. When that drops too low, even gen 3+ needs an active illuminator. The laser light on this unit is quite adequate, and works very well when ambient light is too low. The rail on the side of the light is nice, in that you could mount yet another illuminator for even more brightness, or an extended battery pack, or even a digital recording device that plugs into the outlet. All and all, for the price, a very good balance of performance, that wil...

Excellent product - good value

Excellent scope with very good illumination using on-board Illuminator. Adding a secondary illuminator to the accessory rail greatly improves performance.
Pros: Relatively lightweight - good on-board illuminator...

OK, The unit is well constructed and light compared to some of the units I used in the Military. I bought the "Doubler adapter on ebay from "colmarlowe" Which works on the principal of the "Cantilever" is anchored at the top. The beam carries the load to the support where it fits nicely into he scope 's recessed housing in the front and is forced against it by cantilever force. Cantilever construction allows for structures without external bracing. (Think of the Golden Gate bridge) Then I added the Yukon doubler night vision scope lens. (Nothing made for a camera) to colmarlowes "doubler adapter" and SHAZAM! I also added a TNVC torch pro IR Illuminator on top of the unit (The doubler lens adapter from colmarlowe has a rail accessory on top of the cantilever) and I am looking at insects on big white flowers at 100 yards! (You have to adjust the focus knob on the scope, and the diopter on the eye piece and it is very very good. But here is the kicker. With the yukon doubler lens on "colmarlowe's doubler adapter I can screw the Yukon lens in or out to fine tune the focal length (And lock it with the locking ring) and I can now see insects on white magnolia flowers at night at 100 yards!!! (Colmarlowe is an engineering genius)He takes a good scope and makes it phenominal!!! I am watching deer out at around 300 yards and I clearly saw a does urine stream with amazing clarity!!! (With the TNVC Torch pro IR illuminator) If you are only going to use the onboard IR then unscrew the ca...
