I used an SSIII for 20 years and switched to a ALS when I started carrying a light. The ALS rode a bit lower, and was also longer, so it really dug into the seat.
What it really did was poke the gun up into my side when I sat in the car.
I wanted to raise the gun back up to clear the seat when I sat in the car and this was the only option they had.
Well, it sure is higher, the rear of the slide is now about 2" above the top of my gunbelt. The gun rides very close to the body now. That's actually what this piece is designed to do, turn an ALS into a concealment holster (if you can fathom that). It clears the seat but sticks me in the side a bit now, and the corner of my vest tends to release the thumb piece and fold it down by itself.
I'm going to get one of the QLS kits and see if that'll move it out a little.
Safariland really seems to have no middle ground with their duty holsters, they're either over an inch below your belt or 2" above.
Pros: easy to mount holster
Cons: very high riding...
