Safariland 6377 ALS Belt Holster

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner Written on April 8, 2011
I got this holster for IDPA (M&P 9mm) shooting. While I also have the paddle version, this belt version has an adjustable cant that can be set according to preference. While there is not a lot of running in IDPA, the ALS feature gives that extra confidence of securing the firearm and drawing is as easy as if it were not there. It feels almost like a thumb break holster but quicker. The firearm is held by a "locking" piece over the top of the gun where the slide meets the barrel at the ejection port. Press the thumb release (front to back)raising the internal locking actuator and draw the firearm. The release only requires a minimal amount of thumb movement but is shrouded by the firearm and holster so is not easily seen or caught on clothing, etc.

There is an adjustment screw for tightness of hold. The inside of the holster is lined with a thin suede type material that cushions the gun. At first the holster will be a bit tight so that one hah to hold the thumb over the back of the slide as the gun was holstered but after setting the adjustment screw and multiple holsterings/unholsterings (gun unloaded), it now slides in and out like butter without having to thumb the slide.
IMO this design is better than the Blackhawk SERPA design (finger release at trigger level, locks onto trigger guard, lock release more exposed) that I also own (and no longer use).
The nice thing is that it also works with the M&P9c(ompact) too. So two guns, one holster.
