Great affordable modular rail

by Legacy Reviewer, from United States, MI Written on June 11, 2014
I have a 14.5" barrel with pinned front sight post and muzzle device. That made my options for an extended rail quite limited.

Samson offers theirs at a great price and uses the stock barrel nut. Win Win.

I will say that my first rail had a flaw. Samson sent me an RMA, I returned it and received a new one in a week. Even came with an extra accessory rail.

Great company with a great product.

The only thing is mounting hole spacing. It's not a "standard" measurement. You must use Samson accessories or modify other accessories to work. A small price to pay.
Pros: Uses stock barrel nut, modular, ease of install
Cons: Mounting hole spacing does not allow use of competitors accessories ...

9-EX is an Excellent Option

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner from United States, WA Written on October 28, 2013
This 9-EX is almost a 5 star product. It is excellent in that it is one of the only alloy rails you can purchase that will work with an Adams Arms gas piston system. The finish is standard anodizing. The design is very well made, and you can mount small picatinny rails just about anywhere, without having huge quad rails bulging all over the place. The fit is super tight, and doesn't move. The design allows you to use the original mil-spec barrel nut. When installed, it prevents your barrel nut from ever coming loose, by having anti-rotation tabs on the top rail.

The only gripe I have, is that the holes on the lower front that allow you to tighten the set screws on the gas block, need to be relieved just a little more to prevent scratching of the finish. The holes are just slightly off (a little high), thus your Allen wrench inserts at an angle, and makes it difficult to tighten the gas block screws.

Other than that, once it is installed, it is without a doubt the nicest hand guard I have on any of my rifles.
Pros: very light, tight fit
Cons: gas block access holes...

Awesome

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner from United States, AL Written on September 17, 2013
Easy setup, just wished it came with a barrel nut. I love the ability to put rails wherever you want in a 15 degree increment. Love the look and fit of the Samson 12.37" rail over a 12.5" barrel.
Pros: Cost, Capabilities
Cons: Had to get my own barrel nut...

Evolution or Revolution???

by Legacy Reviewer, from United States, KS Written on June 24, 2013
Handguards are a dime a dozen these days, so make your dollar count. The Samson line is incredibly well thought out and functional. If you are in search of a slim line forend that you can run slick or customize, placing picatiny, hand stops, bipod adapter, foregrips, QD cups anywhere you want along its length, in 15 increments (0,15,30,45,60, etc. rather than just 30,60,90...) then you've found it. This series of handguard attaches by clamping onto two machined aluminum heat transfer collars that surround the OEM type barrel nut std on your AR.
There is no need to remove the original barrel nut to instal. If there is no sight tower on your gun then it simply can slide over the barrel...providing the accessories you attach don't interfere! Once aligned by the anti-rotation tabs machined into the rail, you simply tighten down onto the barrel nut/mounting plate hardware. As with a lot of Free float hand guards, the longer, the less stable. Not the case with the Samson-EVO's. Ive used carbine, mid length, and on this custom 3gun competition rifle, the 15" hand guard is rock solid. I've ran it several weeks now and other than loosening the screws and applying some blue loctite after I was assure it was what I wanted and where, it is staying put!

Accessory modules attach w/ screws via backing plates that engage groves along the inside of the tube. Once set up, I had to remove one of mine and fish around the gas block holding in place with a section of cleaning rod or a 1/8"...

Great rail with solid mounting!

by Legacy Reviewer, from United States, MD Written on June 9, 2013
This rail mounts solid and easily. Dual anti-rotational tabs are great, but there is nothing to keep from pulling the rail straight off except the tension from the mounting screws. Includes extra mounting rails which makes it a great value.
Pros: Anti-rotational tabs, extra mounting rails
Cons: Nothing to prevent rail from behind pulled straight off except screw tension...
