Driver Gradient the way to go

by Lee, from United States, IL Written on December 10, 2014
I've had and used extensively a polarized pair for years but am tired of only seeing half of the instrument panel. I love them in all other aspects: fit, comfort, style, clarity, on and on. I just bought the non-polarized gradient version just to use in the car. They're perfect, all the benefits of my original pair with the added bonus of seeing the whole IP in the car. The gradient makes it easier to see down that way too, especially in flat light, like overcast and fog. Definitely worth having the extra pair for just in the car!...
Pros:
  • light weight
  • comfortable to wear
  • Non-polarized
  • Great in the car
  • great for flat light
Cons:
  • None
Best Used for:
  • driving

My third Serengeti sunglasses spanning decades. Still satisfied.

by Joe from Worcester, from United States, PA Written on September 2, 2014
I've used Serengeti sunglasses for years. Was time to replace my latest pair and decided to give the Velocity a try. They're a little on the small side for me; could be just a little bigger. They're lighter than I expected for metal frames with glass lenses. Vision is great. They do well at cutting down glare while driving and walking. Being polarized, they make seeing the navigation app on my mobile phone a bit challenging, but I'd rather move them to see the screen better than compromise on their primary purpose. I don't like the stylized 'S' they put on the lenses these days, but otherwise I remain a very satisfied Serengeti customer....
Pros:
  • Clarity
  • Lightweight
  • Comfortable
  • Great quality.
  • glare reduction
Cons:
  • just a little small
  • the 'S' on the lenses
Best Used for:
  • Outdoors
  • driving

my go to brand for shades

by Serengeti Fan, from United States, NJ Written on July 26, 2014
Serengeti optics and finish are always perfect. They're also very durable shades, which is a good thing because I find most of their styles to be timeless. This isn't a pair of shades you'll look at 5 or 10 years from now and cringe, it will look just as good then as it does now. And yes, I have pairs I've intended to retire that are going on 10 years. I just keep them around in various locations as spares now, they just refuse to fall apart....
Pros:
  • Never had any concerns or complaints
Cons:
  • I want to own so many models
Best Used for:
  • anywhere really

Good quality sunglasses, but...

by Legacy Reviewer, from United States, MO Written on August 25, 2013
While the lenses and frame of these sun glasses seem to be of high quality I had several problems with them. First, despite a prior reviewer suggesting that they were large I found they were overly snug for me, as well as looking small on me (I resold them to a coworker with a much narrower face and they fit and looked fine on him). Second, I have had cataract surgery recently (lens replacement) and found that the polarization of the lenses did not work well with my eyes. Neither issue is a defect of the glasses, but worthy of note for some folks.
Pros: Light weight, high quality
Cons: Not suited to large heads or someone with lens replacement...

Replace 10 year old Serengeti Drivers gradient. The new lenses are much thinner, frames lighter, more comfortable, can drive all day with these! Great optical performance remains unchanged!

Good Glasses

by Legacy Reviewer, from United States, GA Written on August 16, 2013
Overall this is a good buy. Opticsplanet.com had a competitive price. I went with OP because I have ordered from them before and have had good experiences with them. I could have bought them for $10 less but it was worth the piece of mind to order from OP.
The glasses were for my 14 year old son. He has been wanting an expensive pair of sunglasses for a long time. I have been putting him off until I thought I could trust him. He really likes them and takes good care of them. I am a pilot and have used just about every type of sunglasses over my career. I usually stick with Oakleys. I tried the Serengeti glasses on and really liked them. They are very light which I appreciate and wrap around my head enough that the sun coming in from the side can't bother me. I though it was funny that my son wanted gold glasses. They remind me of the 1970's cop shows. What's old is new again.
Pros: light, fit well
Cons: expensive...
