Simmons Master Series 10x42 Binoculars

I purchased three of these to give to members of my family for Christmas. I opened all three to make sure they were okay and found that the adjustment wheel on all three scopes would slip and the outer cover on the wheel actually comes off. Seems like they didn't use enough adhesive or did not contemplate that the binoculars may be used in the cold and they needed to use an adhesive that would hold up in cold weather. I am debating whether I should return them or use a better adhesive to glue on the outer cover of the adjustment wheel to the actual adjustment wheel. Everything else on the binoculars appears to be well made and designed.

I have used Simmons products for over 15 years and have never encountered something like this. It should have been discovered in the manufacturing process but with all the recent quality control issues with products made in China, I shouldn't be surprised. The sad thing is that I am an American born Chinese and I was hoping they could get their act straight.
Pros: High quality optics, good feel, nice covers
Cons: Adjustment wheel slippage...

This binoculars are great, they meet or beat expectations. I compared them to a pair of Leupold Wind Rivers, and these optics are just as crisp and for the price you can't go wrong. Only concern is the center knob rubber slips when its cold, otherwise great product. ...

These binoculars are heavy duty, and maximize the amount of light in the lenses. The 5 foot close range focus is extraordinary, and the image clarity is top notch. Great product, highly recommended.
Pros: Close range focus
Cons: Heaviest small binoculars I have ever held...

Good Value, mediocre optics

I was able to find these binoculars for about $90. They compared closely to the Nikon Monarchs, but are not quite as sharp. The ergonomics and feel of the Simmons is actually a little better than the Nikons. Overall, I am pleasantly surprised and the quality. The reasonable price means that I will not be afraid to take these any where or to loan them to even my brother in law.

Pros: ergonomics, lens caps
Cons: not phase corrected...
