simmons prosport, ok for the money

by Legacy Reviewer, from United States, AR Written on November 11, 2013
For the price this is a great scope. It is clear at all levels. I would have given this scope 5/5 if the zoom ring was easy to turn. 2 fingers won't budge it, I would say if you have limited hand strength this scope is not for you. I'm 30 and healthy, it's difficult for me to turn. Most zoom rings have a raised area to grip this scope needs about an inch raised area because it's so tight. Would I buy another one of the scopes...NO i wouldn't
Pros: clear at all zoom levels
Cons: ZOOM ring is SUPER difficult to turn...
Would recommend: No

Great scope for the money

I bought this scope during the 25% off rebate deal Simmons was offering. For half the price of the comparable Mueller APV that was recommended by a friend, the Simmons was a steal! I've mounted this scope on a Marlin 795, and at full magnification, I could see .22 cal holes in a 100 yd target. So far I've done most of my shooting on cloudy days with snow on the ground. There is no noticeable darkening at full zoom and the target is crisp. There is a slight yellow cast in the image, but you'd have to be looking for it to notice. The eye relief is very generous. This would be a "set it and forget it" scope because the clicks are not so crisp and, even though I have not tested it yet, I would not trust on counting clicks to get me back to zero. The zoom ring is difficult to turn but not terribly so. I would buy this scope again at regular price in a heartbeat!
Pros: Very clear at full zoom
Cons: Zoom ring difficult to turn...

Not pleased at all, have just purchased a Savage model 10 in 223 caliber and will be replacing scope with a new Redfield as I have one on my 30-06 for 30 years now with no problems whatever. I am disgusted with the poor quality in this scope for a gun package that I paid over $1000 for.
Cons: don't see the need for adjusting front of scope...

Great Scope for the price!

by Legacy Reviewer, from United States, WA Written on October 29, 2007
This is a great scope for the money. The AO feature is free of parallax at 50 and 100 yards per my benchtest. The windage and adjustment is tool free and provides solid clicks. Rubber rings at both scope ends make adjustments easy. Simmons should consider using better lens covers, and the red ring on the top turret doesn't fit the classy look of the gloss scope that I purchased.
Pros: Features for price, quality overall, eye relief and short length
Cons: Unsightly red ring on scope turret, cheap lens cover...
