Solid with large aperture

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner from United States, PA Written on March 28, 2010
While heavy to move, set-up is actually not bad. I move it in pieces. So it is far from a grab-n-go! Good image clarity until very near to the edge of the field of view. Good collimation is a must, but is acheived with relative ease. When properly leveled and polar alligned the goto puts objects right is the fov of the 32mm eyepiece. The tracking keeps the objects pretty close to dead on even without cone error or periodic error adjustments. Slewing is for the most part smooth and quite. The mounting bracket on the declination motor is sloppily machine which causes the mounting screw to work loose. Not a big problem is one is aware, but can cause a good deal of consternation when the gear doesn't mesh properly resulting in mucho noise and no declination slewing. I emailed skywatcher about the problem and have yet to receive a reply. Overall, for the price I paid ($895usa), I am extremely pleased with the performance of the scope. The views of DSOs are great!
Pros: optical quality, GOTO
Cons: heavy, loose declination motor...
