Streamlight Urban Rifle System

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner from United States, WI Written on October 10, 2010
This is one of the brightest flashlights I have used that is still relatively "normal" in size. It is significantly brighter than a Surefire 6P - and I guess that's the consequence of an extra battery and a higher output lamp. The reflector works very well and there is no "dead spot" in the circle of light. The biggest downside of the flashlight it that the beam can be focused only slightly - not nearly as much as say, a conventional D-cell Mag-Lite. The kit comes with a small rail section and mounting screws which I did not use as the flashlight mount attaches directly to a railed forend without issue.
Pros: EXTREMELY bright flashlight, green filter helps save night vision; inculdes spare bulb in the flashlight
Cons: Limited ability to focus the beam; Flashlight mount is a bit heavy and bulky, but is also quite solid; DVD is nothing special...

I bought this light kit for my department owned Bushmaster. After seeing the high priced surefires, i figured i'd go for cheap on the dept's rifle. When i first got it, i noticed it lit up my whole back yard. Great Light! Wrong! What a mistake. We had to qualify in a night shoot, the longest shots from the 25. What is needed for a rifle light is a focused beam that can penetrate muzzle smoke at night. At 15 yards it was fine. Out to the 25, forget about it. I basically qualified from the ambient light from other rifles. The beam is not focused enough to penetrate your own muzzle smoke that far out. I did see other lights, even LED models, that were able to project a very focused beam of white light on the target at normal CQ rifle ranges, out to 50 yards. I like the ability to remove the light if needed, however, this too can be an issue, during some of our drills involving lots of rounds, the light actually fell out of the mount. Once it was tweaked extra tight, it was fine. For LE work, i reccomend a light with a more focused beam. This light is great for lighting a room, but rifle work demands light focus on a man sized target from 25 yds. At this range, this light produces mere ambient conditions. It was my optic that saved the day for the night shoot (and my buddie's rifle lights)
Pros: Cheaper than the sure fire, very flexible, easy to mount
Cons: light beam not focusable, past 15 yards is useless, ...

Streamlight Thunder Ranch Urban Rifle Illumination System - Kit 88108

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner Written on February 27, 2010
This lighting system exceeded my expectations. The light is very bright and effective at quite some distance. This lighting system is being used for home defense in a very rural area so it is very important that the light be effective at quite some distance outside of the home environment. The system was very easy to attach to the Picatinny rail of the weapon and it is very easy to disconnect when only the flashlight may be needed. This lighting system was a great value in comparison to some other much more expensive competitors in the marketplace.
Pros: Quality & Effectiveness of Light

This light is powerful and cheap. Simple to use and there are several ways to mount the light - it's all up to the user. Mounting can be difficult if you are not handy with tools but it is not too hard. The light itself is versitile and can also be taken out of the mounting harness to use as a handheld light. Simple tail cap operation. To have constant on, simply twist the tail cap. So easy, even a cave man can do it. Highly recommended.
Pros: Powerful Light System/Low Cost

Bright light

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner from United States, CA Written on August 14, 2008
Good buy, just as good of quality as Surefire brand, but way less cost. The power button on the end is not click on click off, but if you want the light to stay on, you just turn the end. Great alternative to more expensive options....
