Compact and Powerful

by Marty, from United States, VA Written on October 23, 2014
Great little illuminator. Took me a minute or so to unbutton the battery compartment but at my age everything takes longer than it should. Easy to attach to rail of rifle and/or hand gun. I found the on/off toggle to be especially useful for instantanously illuminating a target with one hand and having trigger control with the other....

TLR-1HL 11 months of use.

by Dreaux Mire, from United States, LA Written on October 16, 2014
Installed the light on my Springfield XDM 3.8 compact .40 cal. I'm use to Stearmlight quality from when i was a volunteer Firemen. It's built tough as I expected and gets tossed around on my pistol in my daily life. Very bright, but in my house with cream colored walls it doesn't seem overly bright....

Medium distance weapon light at a good price

by frubes, from United States, CA Written on August 30, 2014
Streamlight makes the best light for the price, IMO. The TLR-1 is a great handgun light, the TLR-1 HL (this product) has the most lumens in this line and casts a wide beam so a wide path (back yard or an alley) can be lit up at once while the TLE-1 HP has less lumens, it's bigger head concentrates the light to throw the longest beam.

If you are using a handgun, the TLR-1 is the go-to. For long distance light-up (rifle or shotgun), use the TLR-1 HP, but be aware that peripheral objects probably will not be seen. The TLR-1 HL casts the widest illumination so an entire area (side to side) can be safely explored. Plus the 630 lumens (versus 300 in the other two) makes a blinding (disorienting with the strobe function enabled) display.

I use the HL on my Colt M4 to keep me from having tunnel vision and missing side movement....
Pros:
  • Compact Size
  • wide beam
  • Price / performance
  • High lumen spec
  • Easy mount / removal
Cons:
  • Goes thru CR123 batteries quickly
  • Carry spare 123s and use rechargables
Best Used for:
  • Varment spotting in the dark
  • Intruder intimidation
  • Patrol with a long gun

Streamlight TLR-1 HL High-Lumen Weapon Light

by Ron, from United States, TX Written on August 29, 2014
This light is very high quality construction with a solid metal chassis and very clear lens. I had a little difficulty mounting it to my Springfield XDM the first time because I didn't understand the locking mechanism This was because it was my first weapon mounted light, not a problem with the product. Once I figured out the system it mounted easily and securely. The light from this thing is extremely bright. The switch is easily accessible with the pointer finger and can be used in the locked on position or an intermittent spring loaded option (goes off when finger pressure is removed)....
Pros:
  • High quality
  • powerful beam.
Cons:
  • None
Best Used for:
  • handguns

TLR-1 HL. Extremely bright!!!

by Brent K, from United States, WI Written on August 17, 2014
I am a patrol sergeant for a municipal agency. We have a couple of these mounted on our patrol rifles and some of the officers have them on their duty pistols. The HL is so much brighter than the previous version of the TLR-1. Testing them side by side revealed the HL to be so much brighter and it delivers a crisp white light. Great light for clearing rooms and vehicles. It gives a crisp white light that is blinding. Could be too bright at close range. Don't shine it in your eyes. The batteries have a good stand by life. Some reviews wished for a rechargeable light, but in the field you can swap batteries if needed. Not possible if it was a rechargeable unit. For the $$ I recommend....
Pros:
  • good price
  • Bright, crisp white light
Cons:
  • None

I purchased this based on positive word of mouth reviews. This light is awesome and definitely worth the extra $30 for double the lumens. It takes less than 15 seconds to install the batteries and put it on my gun....

  • Brightness
  • Quick installation
Cons:
  • None

Surefire Killer

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner from United States, CA Written on June 25, 2014
I took a month of researching different weapon lights before I concluded on the TLR-1 HL. The switch feels sturdy and gives a strong feedback to the user. The light is as bright as the damn sun! During my research, I found a lot of people whining about, "too many lumens". I say BS! I have all white walls in my place, and did a test run tonight to checkout the splash back. This will not hurt your eyes if you are behind the light. The same cannot be said if you are on the other end. Buy this light. Strap it to your HD pistol. Sleep well.
Pros: Weight, BRIGHTNESS, Ease, Build
Cons: Silver ring...
