Terrible Reliablity

by Legacy Reviewer, from United States, WA Written on September 27, 2013
My Army Infantry unit was issued these for our last deployment. They were brand new out of the box when we equipped them. The strobe function was new to us and it made the light seem awesome. Within the first month, most of our lights had broken. My personal light had broken from me laying my weapon on the ground, and the weight of the M4/M320 combination was too much weight for the cheap plastic to handle. The entire IR assembly cracked and after a few patrols the light had been cracked in half and fell off. This had happened to several guys. A lot of the lights couldnt withstand a few bumps off rocks or being handled in a vehicle. When I was given the SAW I had another one of these lights put on, and ended up taking it off later for fear of it breaking or falling off because of the horrible retention system it uses to clip onto the rail. Even before we deployed, several guys broke the light by not unscrewing the retention system properly when they took it off the rifle to replace the batteries. If you twist it too hard, it will snap off or strip. On the good side, the light itself was very bright and the actuation switch was a cool design. I found myself accidentally actuating it a lot though which could give your position away if you're not careful. The problem is that the switch isn't recessed at all, so just bumping the back of the light slightly will more than likely cause it to turn on or flash. In summary - DONT BUY THIS LIGHT, Its extremely expensive for a cheap pla...

Great for long guns

Wouldn't fit on the pistol rails of 3 different handguns of mine, but works good on a rifle. At 160 lumens this light gets the job done, has awesome beam dispersion. The IR strobe is very powerful also. Built like a tank....

Great for long guns

At 160 lumens this light gets the job done. It would have been nice if the activation switch was ambidextrous like on a surefire x400, and also the dimensions prevented me from mounting it on an FNP 45, FN five and seven, and H&K P30 pistol. All in all though it works great mounted on a rifle rail, and it is extremely rugged.
Pros: Awesome light dispersion
Cons: Wouldn't fit on any of my pistol rails...

TLR-VIR Weaponlight to augment Gen 3 Scope for predator hunting

by Legacy Reviewer, from United States, GA Written on May 12, 2012
So good it's hard to decide where to start. Mounted on Mini-14 Target w/An-PVS4 upgraded to Gen III Scope. The IR illumination completely eliminated shadows that Coyotes could hide in as well as made their eyes flouresce and made them even easier to detect. 20 hr run time on IR is incredibly long considering its 1 watt output. 160 lumen output white light is also outstanding and has 2.5 hour runtime. Easy to mount, use, fits a variety of weapons. You will have no regrets if you purchase this weaponlight. No faults at all.
Pros: Excellent smooth, even beam, 20 hr IR battery life, 300 yd range
Cons: easy to lose cover for remote pad activation plug hole...
