Powerful and lightweight

by Legacy Reviewer, from United States, VA Written on June 7, 2013
I purchased this for work as an additional IR light source and because of its size. At approximately 3.5 x diameter and powered by one CR123 it packs a punch in a small package. The twist on or off or momentary on via the tail cap is built well as all Surefire lights with machined aluminum construction. the M1 does not come with any weapon mounts but can be easily adaptable with a number of 1 weapon rings and mounts. I used a larue ring mount to put this on my carbine. The beam from the unit was a clean solid circular beam due to the quality reflector. My testing showed that this was effective up to atleast 75 yards.
Its reliable and durability will never be in question due to the machined aluminum construction.
Pros: Battery life, size
Cons: none...

Awesome IR light

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner Written on November 29, 2011
Light weight, rugged, with a crisp circle light pattern. click on tail cap. I actually like the IR light more than the IR on a Surefire Vampire V2. In my case I am mounting this on a helmet to aid view through a PVS-14 Gen3 Pinnacle. It works great and it is very small! good value afor a dedicated IR light. And it is built with typical Surefire durability.
Pros: crisp, light weight, rugger
Cons: none...

A Little Disappointed

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner from United States, CA Written on July 27, 2008
I bought this illuminator to supplement a cheap gen 1 night vision monocular that i purchased at the same time. I am a huge fan of Surefire flashlights, I have 2 Surefire LED flashlights that are Phenomenal, but to be honest I am not happy with this one. In close quarters it has a narrow beam that is smooth, but doesn't cover your entire field of view w/ a 1x monocular. Outdoors it is lacking in long range throw. On the plus side it's build quality is fantastic, it has a 1" outer diameter, which means it will fit easily into most flashlight weapon mounts, it has great battery life, and it gives off very little glow, and is very hard to see with the naked eye unless it is pointed straight at you. Please keep in mind that I am using this with gen 1 night vision, from what i understand the wavelength this illuminator generates is not ideal for gen 1. If you have gen 2 or above, your experience may be much better.
Pros: Build quality, Runtime, Reliability, Form factor
Cons: Narrow beam pattern, Underpowered...
