The are lower profile, and will protect your hand as well but will not protect the rail as well. These are also more "rubbery" less "plasticy" than other products. Be aware of one thing - these are short, 6 inches instead of 7 - they will cover most, but not all of a carbine rail. It takes two of them to cover one rail of a rifle length rail.
