First, let me say, I own numerous Surefire lights and love them all. This is my second Surefire headlamp, and I cannot figure out why Surefire can't make a headlamp that is worthy of the Surefire brand. This Maximus is great in a number of ways - the single handed operation (a big improvement over the Saint in this department). The optical quality and variable brightness of the Maximus can't be beat. I like the rechargabilty of it too. I can deal with the weight. But make no mistake, without a top strap the weight of this headlamp renders it mostly useless. Don't even think about running with this headlamp. Even mild jarring (brisk walking, jog, run, scampering over rocks) will bring this chunk of headlamp crushing to the bridge of your nose. Unless I am wearing a thick woolen cap, the headlamp will not stay put. Tightening the strap only gives you a headache over time and still doesn't keep this light in place. I wore it on my baseball type cap and it was so top heavy the cap fell off my head and the lamp hit a rock with a thud - damaging the case. If you have a have a Surefire headlamp (I know the feeling) get the Saint. Hopefully Surefire will blend the best of the Saint (top strap, rear mounted battery pack) and the Maximus (light quality and brightness and single handed operation) and come out with a Gen 3 headlamp that is awesome. Till then, save your money.
Pros: Brightness and quality of light
Cons: No top strap!!!
