After looking through a pair of Swarovski binoculars a buddy of mine had, I decided I wanted an upgrade from my old Bushnell glasses. After spending days reading reviews and looking at prices I was having a hard time justifying spending that kind of money, but I still wanted an upgrade. One of the reviews compared the Vanguard Spirit ED to Swarovski. If they thought enough of the Vanguards to compare them to Swarovski I decided I had to research the Vanguards. Nowhere did I find anyone that was sorry that they purchased the Vanguard Spirit ED, and since I had a coupon from Opticsplanet and they were offering a $50 rebate, I decided what the heck, for about 10% of the cost of the Swarovski's it was worth taking the chance. I'm glad I did. These glasses are brighter, clearer and provide better contrast then my 12x50 Bushnells, which also have multi-coated lenses and BAK4 roof prisms (they aren't junk). The Vanguard Spirit ED binoculars met my expectations for an upgrade and are well worth the money. Don't get me wrong, they are not the same sight quality as Swarovski, but for what little difference there is in the sight picture, and the huge difference in price, I can have a superior set of glasses and buy a new Savage with a Leopold VXIII scope mounted on it. The Vanguard Spirit ED binoculars are truly a fine set of glasses. They don't show it, but the objective lens covers are attached to the body while the front lens covers attach to the carrying strap. This sure helps to keep from loosing the lens covers. You should understand exit pupil limitations and eye relief before buying any set of binoculars.
