Vortex Crossfire Disappointment

by Legacy Reviewer, Written on April 11, 2012
I purchased the Vortex Crossfire
4-16x50 scope hoping that I had found the perfect low-budget scope.
I was greatly disappointed when I took it to the range to sight it in for the first time. I had it zeroed in 10 rounds. Less than 20 rounds later it began to lose zero. After 30 rounds out of my AR-15 (chambered in 5.56 NATO) the crosshairs begain to rotate to the side.
I called Vortex warranty department and they told me they were having a problem with the glue that is used on the Crossfire lenses.
They were willing to replace, repair or refund my money. I chose to have my money refunded.

Pros: Excellent Warranty
Cons: Cannot hold up to normal use...

Excellent scope for the money

I'm using it on my AR-10 and I'm shooting with it at 200 yards ... I simply love it. The easily adjustable turrets have audible clicks, that are really helpful when shooting at the range and Illumination is very good for a low-end model like this.
Pros: Price, well constructed, clarity, good eye relief
Cons: None for the moment...

I bought this a while back for a savage axis 22-250, and it took forever to get the mounts I needed. Make sure you have the right mounts for it before you buy
Pros: Large field of view, long eye relief, size, clarity
Cons: Short tube, no mills....

Good optic for my rimfire rifle. I would buy another one for all my rimfires. Higher-end Vortex (Viper) for centerfire calibers.
Pros: good optics for $
Cons: low-end for Vortex...

Great Buy

I received my Vortex last week and it is a great piece. The optics are very clear for the money, comparable to my older Leaupold VIII. MilDot is very sharp and illumination is great and sharp with minimal bleeding at highest settings. The tall tactical turrets are very easy to adjust and have an audible click and clear marked lines. The turret covers make sure you stay dialed in. AO is spot-on for various distances and you can adjust through the magnification range with acceptable ease. I bought this scope for my AR and I went with a ADM offset Recon-H mount to clear my BUIS. I personally think it is too high in this set-up, but I think it would be okay if I removed my BUIS and mounted lower or if I purchased a cheek riser for my stock. Probably the best optic in this price point!
Pros: Value, clear optics, initial quality, warranty
Cons: nothing I can see now...
