Vortex Diamondback 10x42

by Travis, from United States, MN Written on December 5, 2014
I haven't had a chance to really put them through their paces, but they are very impressive so far in low and bright light. The clarity and brightness is at least as good as a more expensive pair of Leupold's that I was borrowing before purchasing these....
Pros:
  • Clear, bright optics
  • comfortable & easy adjustment
Cons:
  • none so far
Best Used for:
  • hunting, range shooting

Smoked the competition

by Buck, from United States, AL Written on October 30, 2014
I looked through a lot of different binos before purchasing the Diamondback 10x42s. I found some that cost twice a much that were not as bright and clear, one example being the Zeiss Terra ED (at $449.99). I was amazed as I'm a huge Zeiss fan with most of my hunting rifles wearing Zeiss scopes. The least expensive bino that I thought comparable was the Nikon Monarch 7 10x42 which are $419.95 here on Optics Planet.

While I slightly preferred the Steiner 10x42 Merlin Pro ($499.99), mainly because of the side shield eye cups, they were not worth an additional $270.99 (over twice the price). I called Vortex to find if such an eye cup was available and they suggested adding Eyeshield Winged Eye Cups manufactured by Field Optics Research. I found them on eBay for $13.95 shipped.

If you wear glasses, you will love the eye relief. It is so significant that I have to extend the eye cups out all the way in order to use them without glasses. Even then I do not touch the eye cups. In a perfect world, the eye cups would adjust further out and have side shields.

Although I'll be using them primarily for hunting, I took them to a football game and let a friend (a high-end Leupold scope user) look through them. His reaction: "Wow!" When I told him how much I paid for them, he could hardly believe it.

High quality, half the price, and an unbeatable warranty that protects you against ANYTHING except loss. What's not to like? Run over them with a truck: no problem. As a result of this purc...

I've never owned a pair of nice binoculars until now. A friend has a nice pair of Leupolds and the Vortexes are just as nice for a cheaper price. Plus the lifetime warranty that you can't pass up! Even my cheep cheep father was impressed....
Pros:
  • price, quality, and warranty
Cons:
  • nothing

Vortex Diamondback...Good Glass...Good Price!

by glob3006, from United States, CO Written on October 16, 2014
I purchased these primarily for hunting purposes(elk) and am one to do a ton of research before I spend my money on any product. Having owned other Vortex optics I was already familiar with their product line and quality. But in this price range there are other good brands to consider....Bushnell and Nikon both have quality glass in this range but the look and feel of the Diamondbacks (and other Vortex products) not only project tough as nails quality but they back it up with a no BS lifetime warranty! That is added value for a great pair of binos! Plus you get a quality case, comfortable neck strap and functional eye piece protection!...

quality binos

by Archie Meadows, from United States, CA Written on August 18, 2014
compared these against alot of binos, are as good or better than alot of higher dollar binos, easy to adjust, light weight, good light transmission, only fault is the holes for the harness is really tight, and the lens covers could be connected beteer, but no big deal overall, and a good buy with a stand up warranty...

Top Binocs

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner from United States, CO Written on February 17, 2014
I was in need of a more compact pair of binoculars, and was expecting to have to give up a little over my larger more expensive models, but these beat them all. Are there better binoculars, sure but not for this price. I couldn't be happier.
Pros: Sharp, bright, and field-of-view is huge
Cons: None...

Nice Product, Nice Company

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner from United States, TX Written on January 30, 2014
My first pair of good binoculars. They compared well to a couple of other brands, but I chose these for the warranty.

The first pair had a flaw, part of the diopter adjustment I think; I contacted Vortex, they sent a return shipping label, and I had my replacement pair in about 10 days. Brian, their customer service rep, was very friendly, and got things taken care of.

It's nice to deal with a company that takes care of its customers, and Vortex certainly does. I'll be replacing a rifle scope pretty soon, looks like I'll be going with a Viper.

Pros: Clarity, Weight, Warranty

Quality Optics

by Legacy Reviewer, from United States, WA Written on September 30, 2013
I recently purchased the Vortex Diamondback 10x42 bino's. I could not be more impressed and pleased with a product. The clarity, zoom and overall quality construction of these optics are as good as pairs 2 to 3 times the cost in a 10x42. The unlimited, lifetime, no questions asked warranty for replacement is unmatched. They came with a quality hard case, soft strap and lens covers. at $229.00 go buy these optics. Customer for life.
Pros: Clarity, Quality, Warranty, Overall Satisfaction
Cons: none...
