good kit for the money

by Tom, from United States, CA Written on November 19, 2014
Mounted this scope on a Ruger Gunsite Scout. As an aside I would have liked to have gone with the scout scope option given the design of the rifle but I never did find a scout scope that I liked -- tried both Burris Scout Scope and Leatherwood Hi-Lux LER. Both had the same problem for me - I never could get used to the tiny field of view. Anyway, I finally resorted to using the stock Ruger mounts/rings and decided upon using a scope with a relatively small objective - 35mm in this case so as to stay clear of the Picatinny rail that is installed on the Scout. Mounted it up and clearance was perfect. Took it to the range and sighted it in with no more than 10 rounds. There is more wiggle room with the Ruger mounts than you'd think so I started at 50yds, hit paper on the first shot and then walked it in from there. Moved out to 100 yds and only needed a few more shots to a few very small adjustments to bring it into the center of the target. Enjoyed blasting away with about 30 more not only because it was fun but I also wanted to see if the scope would hold up to the .308's recoil. It did...held zero without any problems. Also, for the money, you'd be hard pressed to find clearer glass and a nicer reticle and the windage and elevation adjustments are easy to use, very crisp and very precise....

Mounted on AR15. Very clear glass for the money. Holds zero. Eye relief is fine for low to medium recoil rifle. Love the BDC reticle. Will definitely buy more products from Vortex.
Pros: clear glass, dependable
Cons: none...

good, but note quite great

really liked this scope. wanted it to work for me, but it just was not to be...

purchased to ride atop my TC Bonecollector...eye relief was MUCH too short for 100 gr loads. {got smacked a couple times before I finally admitted defeat}

limited positioning options due to mounting screws {the rifle's fault}...combined with short eye-relief {the scopes fault}...made this a no-go for me.

POSITIVES: quality of construction is fantastic. elevation/windage is set up great, easy to read/adjust/center.

was very pleased with glass/image quality, although it does get a little "fish-eyed" around the edges on 2X {the Redfield I replaced it with does not}.

loved the reticle, but sadly never got to put it just behind the shoulder of a nice buck...

NEGATIVES: eye-relief is too short...much shorter than many of this scope's competitors.

previously mentioned distortion on low power.

will see how the replacement works out: Redfield Revolution 2-7 w/accurange reticle.
Pros: quality, fit/finish, simplicity
Cons: short eye-relief!!! also, view gets a little fish-eyed on lowest magnification....
