Superb optic quality

by JC, from United States, CO Written on January 21, 2015
I picked up the Prism EBR to use on a SBR .300BLK build.
Very impressed as always with the quality of vortex glass and function (not to mention the lifetime warranty!).

Only reason for 4/5 stars is the downside of this model is a lack of eye relief, so the optic needs to be mounted farther to the rear of the upper. Basically with your nose indexing the charging handle, you'll have a perfect view.
The reticle is clear and crisp, in either red or green.

Well worth the purchase. In my opinion, closest sight to an ACOG without the price tag....

Great optic

by Darius, from Luxembourg, Hesperange Written on January 17, 2015
This is a great optic for sports and recreational shooters and hunters who do not need an optic built like a tank such as the ACOG. The glass is very clear for this price range. What I like the most is the reticle: the horseshoe can be used for close targets and the relatively fine cross hairs for longer distance shots....
Pros:
  • clear glass
  • great reticle for CQB and long distance shots
  • two mounting heights thanks to the riser
Cons:
  • does not come with QD lever mount
  • reticle in hundreds of yards not meters
Best Used for:
  • hunting
  • recreational shooting

Vortex 3x Spitfire Illuminated Reticle -- Best Deal for Price

by Falcon195, from United States, CA Written on January 16, 2015
Have received and fired my new Vortex 3x prism illuminated reticle scope and could not be happier. The lens are bright and clear, and the reticle is razor sharp and easily seen day or night. Should the battery go dead a black reticle is clearly seen. Eye relief is a generous 2.8 inches and makes for a comfortable and stable cheek weld (the ACOG has a 1.9 inch eye relief). Unlike traditional elongated scopes, the prism system enables a compact form factor that looks great on the ar15 receiver. The scope appears very sturdy and solidly made with a pleasing look and finish. The knobs turn stiffly with firm clicks. No nonsense fine metal cables and clamps allow the towers caps to be easily removed while keeping them from being lost. The integral scope and mount design eliminates the need for separate scope rings making for a stronger system and reduced cost. Even the spring loaded lens caps are well made and have convenient finger tabs at 4 and 8 o'clock that enable them to be flicked open with pleasing precision. The 349-dollar before incentives price combined with the outstanding Vortex lifetime defect and accidental damage warranty makes the Vortex 3x prism scope a memorial feel good purchase for which one can always be thankful....
Pros:
  • All good
Cons:
  • None
Best Used for:
  • all but the most rugged applications

Vortex Spitfire

by ebomey, from United States, MN Written on January 9, 2015
The quality is great. I would say it's like a poor mans ACOG!
If you are going to put this on a AR pistol or something small your only concern will be that it does have a little weight to it, but if you can get around that you will be very impressed with Spitfire!...

Vortex Spitfire 3x Prism Scope

by Alan, from United States, CA Written on January 7, 2015
Excellent optic because the prism is etched there is no halo.
It is great for individuals like myself with an astigmatism that have a halo with the standard red dot sights. I am 60 years old and the 3x is extremely helpful...

Pretty impressive!

by Dreamz, from United States, OK Written on December 27, 2014
The Vortex optics Spitfire 3x has a really nice reticle. However, the reticle is not very visible indoors without the green or red lighting. Outside, in any daylight, the reticle is very visible and sharp without lighting. With the reticle lighting on, the reticle is beautiful. There is no washing out or blurring of the reticle if you are in focus (and outside - being indoors in poor light can cause blurring, this can occur even with red dots). At 15.4oz, the Spitfire 3x is almost 2-3x heavier than most red dots. The glass is Crystal Clear, very crisp zoomed image. I wouldn't suggest it for CQC/CQB, but if its your pick - stick with it and train with it because it has a little bit of a learning curve. It is not as 'quick' as a red dot because you will be required to have a steady hand for a good sight picture. Like with any scope, my situational awareness feels lower with the Spitfire. I need a RMR style Red dot for the top now ;)...
Pros:
  • Price
  • Quality
  • Warranty
  • clearity
Cons:
  • indoors
Best Used for:
  • hunting
  • Self defense
  • Range

great value like most of vortex

by Toby, from United States, TX Written on December 25, 2014
I run an ACOG on my main AR and wanted something similar for a truck/pig gun without the ACOG price tag. Love the red/green feature, this is to say I like green and never use the red honestly. This fit the bill. Mounting seems very solid so far, adjustments are crisp and hold tight. No tritium means no half life and x3 is plenty good for running and gunning at night. You wont be disappointed....
Pros:
  • Price
  • features
Cons:

My new optic of choice

by Djalkaline1, from United States, VA Written on December 22, 2014
Outstanding quality, beautiful glass and an ultra clear reticle either light or not. All the advantage of a 3x scope tied in with all the advantage of a red dot, with the clarity and feel of an ACOG. The reticle gets super bright with no starburst, and on high is visible in low light even to those with bad eyes. The optic has a great focus ring and makes the reticle great for use outdoors with or without the power on. A little on the heavy side, but still lighter than a red dot and magnifier setup. I will own another one of these in the future for sure. Vortex never fails to impress me....
Pros:
  • Best of a scope and red dot combined
  • Ultra sharp reticle
  • Focus Ring for fine tuning
  • Super bright in sunlight
  • ruged construction
  • Perfect height for flat top AR
  • Great alternative to ACOG
  • Can be sused as standard scope if illumination fails
Cons:
  • little on the heavy side

Vortex for M4

by Dcraig, from United States, NC Written on September 11, 2014
I have the vortex SPARK and don't know why but I wanted a different dot - I am very pleased with the SPARK and strike fire both are great. Can't say enough good about Vortex products but the prism is not for everyone - I got the x1 spit first and was not happy so I decided to go on up to the x3 spit.... I do like the reticle and everything except the red/green illumination. With the spit x1 I had to return because the 2 ring was way too thick and masked targets. With this spit x3 I just did not care at all for the needed eye alignment much like a scope where you lose glass when not exact on center and distance, which is just not the whole idea of fast shooting with dots. So unfortunately I'm returning the x3 and going back with the SPARK II - again I want to stress that Vortex is awesome and planet optics has been #1 to do business with - the spit is super quality but for me I think I will stick with the SPARK and H1 size....
Pros:
  • Quality, clarity and price
Cons:
  • Red/green distorts prism
  • Eye alignment needed like a scope
