The tripod appears to be cheaply made with the workmanship leaving a lot to be desired. I bought this tripod for for my Nikon 16-48x65 spotting scope hoping to use it for target shooting. After mounting the scope to the tripod I proceeded to tighten the lock knob of the base so that I could then set the tripod on its legs and see if there were going to be any problems with weight. The knob is made of plastic and it came off in my hand. I found that part of the knob that was afixed to the locking mechanism (I'll call it a collar for lack of a better term) broke rendering the whole apparatus useless. I didn't "over-torque" the knob ... I was attempting to just snug it down to ensure the scope didn't tilt when placing the tripod on it's legs.
