Awesome binos

by Dan in TX, from United States, TX Written on January 20, 2015
I would honestly compare these with binos at 2-3 times the cost. I've used Leicas and Swarovskis,,,,which have durn fine glass. All my scopes are Leupold. I have a set of Pentax (which are complete fecal matter and the company sucks) binos that I use for TX deer hunting 75 yds and in. The Vortex ROCK. Sitting on the back porch using the Pentax for a side by side comparison....there is no comparison. I was kind of leery buying a sub$500 bino...I was looking for some good glass when I'm hunting in Wyoming etc where the targets are at extreme ranges. Frankly I caught these at a great price so I pulled the trigger. My planning was if they weren't very good binos I'd just return them.

I was going to buy Swarovskis, so my plan was to buy Swarovskis if these didn't work out, I'd researched Vortex and they seemed like a solid company.

These binos are great. Worth twice the money I paid. I'm only giving 4 stars because I have not been able to really field test them, ie extreme cold/exposure to moisture etc. I have NO IDEA how waterproof/fogproof they are. They have amazing clarity, gather light very well in low light conditions.

10x is high as I want to go in a hand held bino,,,,anything more than that is too shaky. If you're using a tripod not an issue....
Pros:
  • Clarity, light transmission
  • quality of glass
Cons:
  • None
Best Used for:
  • hunting

Vortex Viper HD 10x42

by Floating Buzzard, from United States, MS Written on December 19, 2014
Great product. Excellent clarity and construction. Had been looking at much higher priced units, but after looking at the rave reviews by others, I decided to give Vortex a try. Have a fried with a $1000 dollar pair of Swarovski Binoculars, and these Viper HD's look just as clear and bright. Happy Customer!...

Vortex Viper HD 10X42 Binocular

by Boss, from United States, ND Written on November 18, 2014
I was very surprised how well they performed in low light times such as early morning or at the end of the day. In fact my 14 year old son wants his own pair. Also we were just in looking for A new Big Game rifle for him also and he told the sales associate that he wanted A Vortex Viper Rifle Scope for it also, so I guess he also must be sold on the Vortex Optics line. So I guess what I am going to do next summer is I am going to order A pair of the 12x50 Vortex Razor HD for my self. My experience is nothing but completely satisfied. You can't go wrong with Vortex Optics....

Poor man's Swarovski Binoculars

by Skip Wiley, from United States, FL Written on August 30, 2014
I am a birder and a biologist who monitors birds so I live with binoculars and use them for 5-20 hours a week. I've had a pair of Vortex Diamondbacks for 5 years and have been very happy with them but I had been wanting to upgrade. Being a biologist, money is always tight so I needed something less than $1,000. The Viper HD's looked good on paper at $600 but I was nervous. I've had them now to 3 weeks and used them in bad lighting conditions a few times. They have performed better than I could have ever hoped. The soft grippy rubber body with indentations for thumbs on the underside just feel engineered for my hands. These bins are EPIC and my friends (who own Swarovski's) are impressed by them. I can't wait to use them everyday and highly recommend them to birders and hunters alike. The 10 x 42 are so clear and gather so much light, there is no point in getting 8's in my humble opinion....
Pros:
  • Lightweight and comfortable.
  • lightweight and perfect definition
  • Grippy rubber body
  • Optical clarity
Cons:
  • None
Best Used for:
  • hunting
  • Wildlife
  • Birding
