Great scope thus far

by Phil, from United States, FL Written on February 25, 2015
Fit and finish is top notch. It's the nicest scope I have owned so not much to compare it to. Got price point, clear optics, and great features. Zoom is a little tough to adjust but will likely wear in and get easier. Love the lit reticle and if it's not needed black lines work great too. It being second focal planes doesn't bother me because I shoot mainly in 24x anyway where the reticle is calibrated for moa measurements....

Great glass for the price

by BlairH, from United States, TX Written on February 20, 2015
This is the 3rd Vortex scope I have bought and the 2nd Viper 6-24x50 PST. The optics are clear all the way to 24x and have good light gathering capabilities. The reticle is slightly on the narrow side, but allows for pinpoint accuracy. And in the event of low light the illumination feature is great. The "off" feature between all illumination settings lets you acquire your preferred illumination with one click. Elevation and windage adjustments are crisp, audible and very precise. For the price point, this scope is a great choice!...

Incredibly well built scope

by JC, from United States, MT Written on February 14, 2015
This is the second vortex scope I have purchased and I absolutely love it. I needed the extra magnification for longer shots and this scope delivers. Clear glass, sharp picture and very crisp adjustments of the elevation and windage. Long eye relief on these scopes is great for teaching kids to shoot so they don't end up cutting their eye. Very well build and I've called Vortex now twice with questions and found them to be very helpful and willing to help. I'd highly recommend this scope for longer range shooting (600yd and beyond)....
Pros:
  • quality, warranty
  • clarity of glass
Cons:
  • Heavy scope
Best Used for:
  • Long range target, hunting & varminting

Outstanding Value for the Money

by Jerry, from United States, MD Written on February 12, 2015
So far this scope is awesome. Love the materials/workmanship, glass, target turrets, and reticle. I got the second focal plane MOA variety and am very happy with it. I'm also pleased with customer service at both Optics Planet and Vortex. You couldn't ask for nicer, more competent, or accommodating people to deal with. Big thumbs up all the way around....

Great scope for price

by Ohio308, from United States, OH Written on February 3, 2015
Great scope for the price. I would recommend this scope to anyone. Gives you a lot of features the high dollar scopes offer at a fraction of price.
I put it on a 308 AR if you are going to stretch it out past 600 yds you will need a scope mount or flattop top riser with 20 moa built in....

Ehh.......

by F-Shooter, from United States, CA Written on January 28, 2015
So I've read a million reviews on these scopes and finally bought one for an M1A project.
I was really skeptical that many reviewers had ever actually looked through or owned high end
glass to compare this to. Ie Nightforce, March, Schmitt&Bender etc. Though many said they had.
The fit and finish is first rate, sunshade included, awesome warranty (even if you paint it)
The scope is feature packed. Great exposed turrets, side focus, illuminated reticle etc.
it's definitely a lot of scope for the money. There is nothing else out there with this many high end
features for under $800. I really like the reticle, it's very similar to the one I shoot in a Competition Series
Nightforce (FCR-1). Shooting this scope shows its a*s a little. Top and bottom end of its magnification range
Leave the eye relief way back or way close. The tracking isn't exactly 1/4 moa as described. The scope is
Funky and unforgiving about eye placement for a full field of view. Parallax was however easily dialed out.
After dicking with it awhile I've decided this thing should be pinned at 16X because that's where it performs the best.
Nice looking scope. Great features. Great warranty. Decent clarity. Tracking so-so. Good value for the money.
But make no mistake it is no Nightforce, March or S&B. Big money scopes are big money for a reason, they're worth it.
I got what I paid for with this scope and am not dissappointed....
Pros:
  • Warranty
  • Feature packed
  • fit/finish
Cons:
  • So-so glass
  • poor tracking
Best Used for:
  • Entry to mid level shooting

Viper PST review

by Dallas Hummel, from United States, VA Written on January 19, 2015
So far this scope has performed exactly as expected. Seems to be very well made. Glass is clear if not clearer than any other scope I own in this price range. This is the first scope I've purchased that has a lighted reticle...I love it. Also, having an "off" position between each brightness setting is genius. The magnification adjustment seems a little stiff but, I think this may be due to the fact that scope has seen little use so far and the temps have been in the low to mid 30's on the two occasions that I have had it out. I'm hoping it will loosen up with more use and a bit warmer weather. One of my main criteria for the quality of a rifle scope is that perform as new over the long haul. I have no reason to believe that the Vortex Viper will not be just as good 20 years from now as it is today....
