Great glass and features

by Aubie57, from United States, TN Written on December 22, 2014
I own two other Vortex scopes and would recommend them to any casual/intermediate shooter. Best feature is the great glass and the value for the money. Received a great deal during the holiday sales events at OpticsPlanet....
Pros:
  • Glass clarity
  • price/performance
Cons:
  • None.
Best Used for:
  • Tactical shooting
  • bench shooting

What a GREAT optic!

by shooter1, from United States, WI Written on November 6, 2014
Glass - slightly better than a VX3 (have many VX3s and love em all) at low power; slightly less crisp at high power (14X +). Attention to detail and workmanship outstanding. Rugged scope (338 Win Mag no problem at all). And with so many features at such a reasonable price it should be an easy choice in the affirmative for any serious shooter. The PST rates close to the top, regardless of price. No wonder so many military and ex military shooters are turning to Vortex for excellence in optics. Already planning my next PST....
Pros:
  • Superb glass
  • Superb attention to detail
Cons:
  • None

precision optics

by Edmo, from United States, TX Written on October 27, 2014
This scope is as clear and the adjustments are as precise as those of much higher priced brands. while zeroing the scope I found the adjustments to be spot on. even at maximum magnification there wasn't any distortion around the edges of the glass. the one thing that could be improved upon is the elevation and windage hash mark need to extend out closer to the outer edges of the glass....
Pros:
  • very clear optics and precise adjustments
Cons:
  • windage and eleveation hash marks need to extend further to the edge of the optics
Best Used for:
  • Long range target, hunting & varminting
Would recommend: Yes

Quality Scope

by kwajcharlie, from United States, AL Written on September 22, 2014
I can compare it to a Higher priced scope that I recently used with similar size objectives and the clarity is less but very close. For the price it is a good deal. Setting up the scope was easy with the instructions provided, I did use vortex rings too. The adjustable brightness of the illuminated reticle is very useful and the scope adjustments are spot on. Changing the power is a little stiff but I would rather have it that way, I am sure it will get easier with use. I am very happy with the purchase and price of the scope, I recommend it to anyone looking for a scope needed for long range shots or long range targets. This is a High Quality item, the finish is impeccable....

Superb scope for the money

by JeremyP, from United States, NH Written on September 4, 2014
This is the second Viper PST 6-24x50 scope and 5th Vortex optic I own. The eye relief is excellent, the glass is very clear and it has excellent parallax and eye focus adjustment that allow you to bring the target into proper focus. The illuminated reticle really helps in low light conditions or when shooting against a dark target. You may not use it too often but when you need it, it's helpful. The adjustable brightness levels are outstanding too.

The turrets have a tactile feel with very positive clicks so there's no guessing. The zero reset is easy to do and the added feature of zero stop is easy to do and awesome in use. No more counting elevation clicks or having to remember where the hash line was to get back to zero. Now that I have this feature I could never go back to a scope without out it.

The scope's adjustments are also very accurate having tested this out with a box test and during a 1000 yard rifle course where we zeroed at 100 yards and then made adjustments for 300, 500, 750 and 1000 yards, returning to our 100 yard zero after shooting at each distance. At my next range session, it was right back to zero...Point of Aim = Point of Impact.

The best part about Vortex is the value and their warranty. I've never had to use it but their warranty is just about the best in the industry. This scope performs as well as or better than scopes costing a LOT more. You can't go wrong with the Viper PST 6-24x50....
Pros:
  • Illuminated reticle
  • Turret adjustments
  • Excellent warranty
  • Glass clarity
Cons:
  • I'd like to see flip up caps come standard
Best Used for:
  • Long range target, hunting & varminting

Review Of Vortex Viper PST 6-24x50mm Riflescope

by Shannon Hirsch, from United States, WA Written on August 29, 2014
This is a great scope and a good value for the money. I have many different scopes and this became my favorite as soon as I stuck in on a rifle. Optics are clear, markings and controls are very nice (except the power ring is too stiff)and the MOA graduated reticle is well done. It is also of reasonable size and weight in a 6 to 24X. I have a couple of Bushnell Elite 6500s in the 4.5 to 30X, a Leupold VX-6 in the 3 to 18X, a couple of Alpens and an Osprey in 6 to 24X. While they all work fine and cost in a range from less than half to twice as much as the Viper, if I had to use just one scope I would take the Viper over the others....

vortex pst 6-24x50

by dan, from United States, NC Written on August 8, 2014
Great scope and super clarity. Scopes were on sale at Optics Planet and super buy. Let friends look thru scope and they were impressed. I own leupold and zeiss and this scope is as good at a much lower price. Try a vortex pst and you won't be disappointed....

Great Mid Range 300-600 yd Scope

by OOB, from United States, ME Written on July 30, 2014
I've been shooting a couple of years Mid-Range with a fixed 36X scope and was looking for a step up and something I could deal with mirage a little better and this scope with the side parallax adjustment and the zero stop made this a perfect choice. I'm very impressed with the rugged construction, consistent tracking and the clarity. While I continue to work on my skills this is an excellent mid priced, but very high quality scope that gets the job done. Finally the lighted reticle with heavy overcast or on rainy days is a big plus. I may even use it for some night coyote hunting this winter under the full moons....
Pros:
  • Clarity
  • Side parallax adjustment
  • Tracking
  • Lighted reticle
Cons:
  • None
Best Used for:
  • Mid-Range Competition
  • Low light varmint hunting
Would recommend: Yes
