Most Helpful Positive Review Great magnifier
I bought this magnifier to use with my Aimpoint PRO on my Colt 6940. I did not see the point of spending $500 + on the Aimpoint magnifier. I already...

Quality Magnifer

by bil, from United States, IA Written on January 27, 2015
I have only used this one time and it proformed great, no problem. The only issue is in the mounting and how it is set up to swing to the left. Yes you can switch it around and it works great, will take getting use to on how to grip it to flip it over but it is more than do-able. I mounted it on an optic ready platform behind an eotec 512 & 522 and I did have to use the shim to center it up, not a problem. All in all so far very happy with it and the price allowed me to get two for the cost one Eotec Magnifier. Four stars only for the mount....

vortex magnifier

by AR15RDY, from United States, AZ Written on January 24, 2015
A great magnifier with a great warranty at 1/4 of the price of its competition! Paired it with strikefire 2, 1/3 cowitness setup. It's always ready cqb or decide to put some distance between us and I'm still confident I'll stay on target with quick acquisition. Also comes with flip mount right out the box. A swing mount may be more functional but will be an additional cost. Overall this is a great setup and pleased with the purchase and services received from OpticsPlanet...
Pros:
  • Everything
Cons:
  • None
Best Used for:
  • engagement

Quality piece with great warranty/price

by WildBill, from United States, TX Written on January 22, 2015
I mounted it to my Colt LE6920 with ease. It fits well and works great with Vortex StrikeFire II Red Dot w/ 4 MOA Reticle. The flip mount is a nice feature. Price and warranty make it a great deal! I would purchase again for sure....

Flip Mount design flaws, blurry glass o edges

by Eric Adams, from United States, UT Written on January 13, 2015
The magnifier is nice and well made but there are a few issues. The flip mount design is not good, the magnifier flips to the left side which blocks your none shooting eye's view (cannot shoot with both eyes open when mount is flipped to the side, unless you are left handed of course). Vortex missed the boat on this mount design, which really surprises me. Anyone who shoots with a red dot or holographic sight knows that your none shooting eye is important so a design that would block the field of view of your non shooting eye is unacceptable and should have been scrapped from the design board immediately. You can flip the magnifier around on the mount, but then the push button to release the mount is on the front of the magnifier, making you reach around the front to push the button. Not very practical. The other issue I have is with the clarity of the magnifier. The edges of the field of view are blurry when looking through the magnifier. I believe going with an eotech magnifier would be a better investment, more money but definitely better design on the mount and better clarity....
Pros:
  • Decent quality for the money
Cons:
  • poor mount design
  • blurry glass on edges

Great optic behind Eotec

by charles, from United States, KS Written on January 5, 2015
Just replaced my old Mako 5x and swing mount with the Vortex VMX-3T. Wow what a difference. Optic is far superior, clear and mount is rock solid. Only draw back is if mount ever goes bad I am stuck due to the design but for $200 it's worth the risk....

Not as great as I hoped

by Helicopilot, from United States, AL Written on December 19, 2014
Looks sturdy, clear optic but very short eye relief! I've placed the magnifier as far back as possible on my rail, barely clearing my BUIS and I still have to put my face awkwardly close to the sight. Will see how I feel about it after a few hundred rounds and see if I end up buying something else....

Easy to operate

by MotownMarty, from United States, MI Written on December 4, 2014
Item was purchased to help me check shots at the range with my 1x aimpoint pro. It clips on easily, and the enclosed shim allows it to co-witnesses perfectly with my red-dot sight. Optics are usual good quality that we see with Vortex. I don't know yet if I'll use it outside the range, but it should work perfectly well as a short-range scope too....

If you already have a red dot sight, you'll want this too!

by Marty, from United States, TN Written on December 3, 2014
I recently purchased a Vortex Strikefire II to mount on my Ruger SR556 rifle and I love it! It makes quick shots on target very easy, but for longer distances...it was lacking clarity. At least with my aging eyes! I saw the VMX-3T Magnifier advertised on opticsplanet.com and knew I had to have one. It came with a flip mount and a shim to allow co-witnessing with IBUS. The only con that I have with this magnifier is the flip mount, it's made to flip to the left side. Being right-eye dominant...this blocks my peripheral vision. I had to turn the mount around so that the magnifier would flip to the right, but doing so put the button that actuated the hinge in front of the mount. Not the most comfortable position! Note: Having the magnifier flipped to the original left side also made using my single point sling impossible to use. I wish Vortex offered an optional mount for us shooters that want their magnifiers to flip to the right side of their weapon. Awesome product, with a lifetime warranty!...
Pros:
  • Price
  • clear glass
  • lifetime warranty
Cons:
  • Mount
Best Used for:
  • 3x magnification of red dot sights

Excellent value

by Teague, from United States, TX Written on November 18, 2014
I read a lot of online reviews before purchasing and wondered how everyone thought this mag was so good when others cost so much more. Well, they were right. It's a darn fine optic. The optic, flip to side mount, and misc hardware are high quality. The mount solidly sets at both detects and the position of the release button allows one hand to rotate it easily while maintaining a grip on the rifle. (For my rifle, that means maintaining a solid hold on the AR pistol grip and decent cheek weld).

Image quality and light transmission is also excellent. I've peered through some mighty expensive Swarovski, leupold, trijicon, and zeiss scopes before. The vortex is as bright and crisp as any, and much brighter than some (looking at you, trijicon-oh-dear-lord-I-need-NVGs-to-see-through-this-thing). Granted, this is just a short magnifier and not a full length scope.

The vortex is adjustable like a scope, but for the purposes of centering your other optic. For me, that's an aimpoint micro H1 with a riser. I was worried the aimpoint would sit too high, but the vortex also includes a riser. With the riser and some minor click adjustments, the vortex has the red dot dead center.

It's been pretty chilly outside lately, down in the 20's and teens, and it hasn't fogged up one bit.

I really like this thing. If I do another AR build, I'll get another....
