very disappointing

I purchased two of these a year ago but did not try using one until this month due to working out of town the past year. While attempting to attach the sound tube to the ear hook, the ear hook broke off of the body of the unit. I contacted Optics Planet, who said they could do nothing since the unit was out of warranty. I contacted GSM Outdoors, apparently the parent company of Walkers Game Ear, who offered to try to fix it for $69.99 plus tax and shipping. I declined, since I think I have already invested enough money in a defective unit I was never able to use even once. I had previously heard good things about Walkers Game Ears, I can only assume that they have now changed to inferior quality Chinese manufacturing for their products. I will not use them again.
Pros: broke before I could determine any
Cons: broke while attempting to use the first time...

Very light and unobtrusive

Irritating to have feedback when trying to put in ear. Difficult to turn on impossible to turn off while in ear. Great enhancement and suppression in a small product.
Pros: Small, light, comfortable, great suppression and enhancement
Cons: Tough to avoid feedback during insertion...

Game ears for hunting

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner from United States, WI Written on December 1, 2011
I purchased this product for deer hunting. I hunt with a 300 Win Mag with a muzzle brake and occasionally with a 44 Mag revolver. Both are very loud and I worry about causing long term damage to my hearing if I fire them without hearing protection. Wearing earplugs while hunting is less than ideal since you cant hear the deer coming. I tried electronic earmuffs about 10 years ago (Im sure theyre better now), but I found them uncomfortable to wear all day. The Walkers Game Ear was very comfortable to wear (I forgot I had it in after a couple hours) and did its job to electronically suppress my 1 shot from my rifle (my ear was not ringing after the shot like it otherwise would be). It absolutely did its job. I cant really comment on how well it amplifies sounds as I had the volume turned to the lowest setting which was pretty close to normal volume. I was really only interested in the muzzle blast suppression. I only used 1 Walkers Game Ear and had an earplug in the other ear. Having one in each ear would be better, but the 1 Game Ear and 1 earplug combination works well if youre on a budget. Ive only used them for one season, so I cant comment on how durable they are. I hope they will work for many years. One other note: Game Ears do pick up wind noise, but I was wearing a stocking hat over my ears which blocked out all the wind noise but did not interfere with the Game Ears operation.
Pros: Suppress dangerous gun blast, comfortable
Cons: Price, but hearing aids ...
