The steel snapped in half after I finally got it tightened to the weaver style base, because the female thread that the screw tightens into was poorly tapped, and the screw was exceedingly difficult to screw in. No, it wasn't cross threaded. One was fine, the other ring was defective. 30 seconds after finally getting it tight, the mount snapped in half.
