Wiley X - SG1 - Light Adjusting Goggles

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner from United States, NC Written on April 26, 2011
I use these while riding motorcycle, shooting range and windy, dusty, or inclement weather. I like the LG version as they adjust to light conditions. Very light and comfortable, plus different options of securing to the body/head is quick, easy and fast.
Pros: Versitile and comfortable...

Wiley-X SG-1 goggles with interchangeable lens

if purchasing SG-1 goggles, recognize major problem with fogging. I tried 3 different de-fogging products w/o success. I used them hunting in the snow and while the lens were great, the fogging was miserable experience. I will be trying the special defog lenses next.

In short, if you plan on using these goggles for winter events with activity, do not purchase regular lens!
Pros: straight forward set up
Cons: fogging makes them worthless...

Best Deal I found online!

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner from United States, IA Written on July 1, 2009
I actually bought the replacement lenses for a set I already have, but am going to order a second set due to the great low price! This system works great for bicycling, riding motorcycle, and about any kind of outdoor activity! Thanks!...

Great goggles for general use

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner from United States, CA Written on February 11, 2009
I originally bought these goggles for use in pyrotechnics. I also take them to the range whenever I go shooting. The goggles are great at keeping debris out and are pretty comfortable. They have a tendency to fog up if you are using the headband instead of the swing-arm attachments, but an application of anti-fog does the trick. My main complaint is that the light sensitive goggle inserts stopped adjusting after a year or so, so now I use different inserts based on the lighting conditions. I've used these for two years to shoot fireworks shows manually and they definitely have saved me from flying debris on more than one occasion. Overall, these are some to of the most comfortable and versatile sets of protective goggles I have ever used.
Pros: Interchangable lenses and headband
Cons: Light adjust lenses lose sensitivity after a year or so...

Light Adjusting Wiley W SG-1

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner Written on July 26, 2007
I'm deployed to Iraq and purchased the SX-1 with light adjusting lenses so I would not have to change lenses between night and day operations. While the lenses are very clear in night operations, the darkening abilities are very poor, allowing in much more light than the regular smoke lenses. This was a very expensive "lesson learned" about the light adjusting lenses. I've gone back to using my Wiley-X PT-3 for day operations.
Pros: Choise of Head Band strap or temple rails with gator strap.
Cons: Light Adjusting lens do not turn very dark. Very large frames (this is on a size 7 3/4 head)...

Wiley-X SG-1 LA Sunglasses / Goggles w/ Interchangeable Lenses

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner from United States, CA Written on July 26, 2007
I was (yes this states was) extremely impressed with my SG-1 sunglasses/goggles. I am and american serviceman currently deployed to the Middle East for Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF). I used these sunglasses/goggles for tactical military purposes.

I purchased the following items:
- Wiley X SG-1 Goggles Extra Lenses
- Wiley-X SG-1 LA Sunglasses / Goggles w/ Interchangeable Lenses
- Wiley-X TS-235D Deluxe Hard Case
- Wiley-X SG-1 Goggles Gasket

I wanted durable eye protection for training with the goggle capability for the extremely dusty enviroment in OIF. I purchased the polarized lenses for the extremely bright days and the light adjusting for the night and transitions to bright sunlight.
I stated "was" above because prior to actually landing here in the Middle East my glasses, lenses, and hardcase were stolen from my checked bags by either Delta Airlines or the Transportation Security Administration while I was on leave. I am working on claims with each is taking time due to my constant assignment of missions.
My experiance with Optics Planet was excellent and reccommend Optics Planet to my friends and co-workers.
Thank you for reading.

Fogging Issue

These goggles proved completely unuseable in a warm, humid environment such as outdoors in Houston. They fog and remain heavily fogged after a few minutes of wear, dangerously affecting visibility. I returned mine.
