As the next evolution of optics, holographic sights are some of the most technologically advanced optics on the market and are perfect for a wide range of shooting situations. If you're looking to break into the world of holo sights, we carry EOTech holographic sights, Vortex holographic sights, Holosun holographic sights, and other holographic red dots from top-rated brands. These optics are unique because they don't use an LED to create the reticle like traditional red dot sights. Instead, they usually use a laser and mirrors to create a hologram of the reticle that appears in front of the optic. This is especially useful in high-pressure situations and rough conditions, as even if the glass on the optic breaks, the reticle is still usable.image

Many law enforcement and military personnel prefer holographic sights for this reason, as when they're out in the field they still have a reliable optic that they can count on. Holo sights also work well with red dot magnifiers because the reticle is magnified at the same amount as the area in front of you, making it the same size as it was relative to your sight without magnification.

Which Is Better: Red Dot or Holographic Sight?

The right optic for you depends on your familiarity with the sight and how you plan to use it. For example, traditional red dot sights are extremely simple, affordable, and easy to use, so they're often the best choice for beginners or people who don't plan on doing anything too strenuous with their firearms. However, there are also some red dot sights that are extremely advanced and work well in high-pressure situations. On the other hand, holographic sights are packed with technology and features that appeal to specific groups of shooters, namely military and law enforcement personnel. Additionally, holographic sights are often more viable for those with an asitgamtism. You can learn more about that in our Red Dot Sight FAQ Guide.

What Is the Benefit of a Holographic Sight?

Holographic red dot sights have many benefits, but the most significant is how accurate they are. With the reticle appearing in front of the glass through which you aim, you have an expanded field of view. This allows for extremely fast target acquisition and increased accuracy with a distinct aiming point. Additionally, the reticle continues to work even if the glass cracks or is smudged with dirt and debris, so in high-pressure situations, you can still take accurate shots.

What Distance Is a Holographic Sight Good for?

This depends on the exact sight you get and whether or not you plan to use a magnifier. Generally, without a magnifier, you can expect to be pretty accurate with holographic sights at up to 100 yards, depending on your vision and the conditions in which you're shooting. With a magnifier, you can increase this distance to nearly 300 yards, which gives you tons of versatility when you're shooting.
