Most Helpful Positive Review Awesome awesome
This bcg is perfect for someone who wants to avoid dealing g with an adjustment gasblock. I wish they had different finishes like nickle boron but still performs even as it is. I fired 556 and 223 loads and was able to change the gas setting with a flat.head no problem
Most Helpful Negative Review Functional but could be better
Works as advertised as far as allowing you to bleed off gas coming into the key. It is fairly easy to adjust on the fly as well. Key appears well staked. My complaints about the BCG are in the details. The contact surfaces are not polished at all. Even budget BCG's are polished where they make conta...

Great for Over gassed builds as well!

by K2, Verified Owner from CO, United States Written on August 23, 2025
What's funny is most people buy this to help tune their suppressed rifles. Naturally adding traditional baffled can will with no exceptions run your gun way harder. So with that in mind I bought a Dead Air Lazarus 6 "flow through" can so I can avoid the all that tuning nonsense. Unfortunately for me, My DD Contract overrun 11.5 upper was horrifically over gassed out the box. How can i tell? It was pounding my shoulder like a 308 and spitting hot brass into my hand a 12 O'clock position with or without my can being on. Shoved a H3 buffer in it and it dropped it into a tolerable 2-3 O'Clock ejection pattern with recoil akin to 7.62x39 as opposed to 308. 3 Brass facts and Hop later I decided to give this thing a literal shot and see if it lived up to the hype and It sure did! On the 3rd-suppressed setting it made a very noticeable difference. Brass was kicking out around 3-5 and life was good. Even changed it to un-suppressed and checked the prior ejection pattern to make sure I wasn't placebo effecting my self and sure enough it went back to like an SKS and kicked brass at a 2-3 position again; Changed it back to the 3rd position and it worked great. If you have a cheap AR or a victim of DD's weird obsession with drilling a massive hole into the gas port, this defiantly helps a bunch! Sure it might cost just as much as a rifle speed adjustable gas-block and has significantly less positions to choose from, but it's as plug and play as it gets with little to no gunsmithing requi...

This thing legit works

by flashgross, Verified Owner from SD, United States Written on June 21, 2025
I put this on an excessively overgassed suppressed (Griffin HRT) gun and with a few clicks of adjustment it took the ejection pattern right to 3:30 and i love knowing the carrier is made of S7 tool steel.

Bootleg in Full Auto Suppressed SBR with FSB - works!

by Klugey1, Verified Owner from NC, United States Written on May 30, 2025
No more gas to the face with my CAR-15! My CAR-15 (556) is a household favorite, but when we put a suppressor on it, it has been so gassy that it is hard to stand. Since the 11.5" Colt barrel has a pinned Front Sight Block (FSB), there is no way to adjust the gas. It was already overgassed (for reliability), so when we put on the Polonium K, the gas to the face was almost unbearable. We have a PRI Gasbuster charging handle installed, but it was not enough for a full-auto system to prevent a ton of gas to the face.

After the Bootleg was installed, we dialed it all the way down to position 4 (fully suppressed), and received locked LRBHO with the single round test - Check! The gas to the face was almost eliminated when using the PRI Gasbuster with the Bootleg on suppressed.

The real test was to use it in full-auto. At an indoor range, we mag dumped 3 full magazines with the Polonium K, and although the handguard and suppressor got very hot, there was very little gas directly to the face - Check! There was a 'gas cloud' that sort of hung off to the side of the chamber (where the Bootleg releases the gases), but that was way better than having that same gas shoot to my face.

The Bootleg was very dirty and was a little difficult to rotate back to the unsuppressed position after the suppressed mag dumps, but we were able to accomplish it with a good screw driver and muscle. After a thorough cleaning, the rotation was much easier to use. The difficulty in rotating may hav...

Tried And True

by Haywood Jablowme, Verified Owner from VA, United States Written on May 18, 2025
If you have gassy Can and HATE Adj Gas Blocks then this is your ticket . 100% reliable and this product actually works . Have little over 6k in total thru these 4 POSITION BCGs . They make my gassy Can 10x less over gassed with 3 o'clock super strong ejection. Previously Bolt velocity was so high the rounds just fell out . Have not used Bootleg Bolt yet . I just use BCG .

Bootleg 4position BCG

by Asa, Verified Owner from GA, United States Written on May 1, 2025
Great product. Defeats a massive amount of blow back when shooting suppressed. Also takes away the dreaded need for an adjustable gas block. If you can find one in stock and you shoot suppressed 5.56 or 300 blkout you should definitely pick one up

Just the ticket for my AR pattern pistol

by ApachePaul, Verified Owner from KY, United States Written on April 28, 2025
I installed it in my new build AR pistol. 10.5" barrel with mid length gas system, suppressed with Omega 36 modular can in full length configuration. Set the Bootleg BCG to full S. Gun ran perfectly throughout 3 normal capacity magazines. No malfunctions, minimal gassing to shooter, I LOVE IT!
This is my 2nd Bootleg BCG. My other one is a 1st gen, 2 position BCG on a 16 in, carbine. I runs great too, suppressed on not.
Pros:
  • Simple operation
Cons:
  • cant find any
Best Used for:
  • Suppressed and unsupressed firing of AR-15

Bad packaging

by Dev, Verified Owner from NC, United States Written on April 20, 2025
The bootleg bcg does exactly what I need it to and as a lefty it’s great for cutting down gas. My only issue is with the packaging. My experiences with optics planet have normally been great but they kinda dropped the ball on this one. They packaged it in just a bag with no protection around it. By time it had gotten to me it was just loose in the bag outside of its packaging. It is a bolt carrier group so thankfully it can take a little abuse but that just seemed sloppy on optics planets part.
