No more gas to the face with my CAR-15! My CAR-15 (556) is a household favorite, but when we put a suppressor on it, it has been so gassy that it is hard to stand. Since the 11.5" Colt barrel has a pinned Front Sight Block (FSB), there is no way to adjust the gas. It was already overgassed (for reliability), so when we put on the Polonium K, the gas to the face was almost unbearable. We have a PRI Gasbuster charging handle installed, but it was not enough for a full-auto system to prevent a ton of gas to the face.
After the Bootleg was installed, we dialed it all the way down to position 4 (fully suppressed), and received locked LRBHO with the single round test - Check! The gas to the face was almost eliminated when using the PRI Gasbuster with the Bootleg on suppressed.
The real test was to use it in full-auto. At an indoor range, we mag dumped 3 full magazines with the Polonium K, and although the handguard and suppressor got very hot, there was very little gas directly to the face - Check! There was a 'gas cloud' that sort of hung off to the side of the chamber (where the Bootleg releases the gases), but that was way better than having that same gas shoot to my face.
The Bootleg was very dirty and was a little difficult to rotate back to the unsuppressed position after the suppressed mag dumps, but we were able to accomplish it with a good screw driver and muscle. After a thorough cleaning, the rotation was much easier to use. The difficulty in rotating may hav...
