Most Helpful Negative Review Good, until batteries die.
I've had this medium box bolted to the floor inside my truck for the last 2 years and its worked great, until the first batch of batteries died and I couldn't find the default code. Interestingly, and disappointingly, it only took a small Stanley WonderBar prybar to pop it open, and the latch wasn't even damaged. So this looks like a strong enough safe for temporary storage, but it won't stop anyone for long. Definitely better than hiding things under your seat, since the black color makes it disappear inside a vehicle. I'll continue to use it, but will consider replacing it with somethi...

Not burglar proof, but it should keep your kid out.

by Dave the guy, from IL, United States Written on August 22, 2016
This safe is a reasonable deal and a convenient size. It is not burglar proof. It took longer to ship than what was estimated. A smart high school aged kid could probably break into this box with tools. I think it meets the intent for securely stored.
Pros:
  • Priced well.
  • convenient configuration
Cons:
  • long lead time
  • not strong
Best Used for:
  • kid proofing with young kids
Would recommend: Yes

Not able to withstand a TNT blast.

by ross, from MI, United States Written on February 4, 2016
But what are you expecting for $40? Fact is this metal box is very solid and heavy. Secure enough to keep valuables or a small pistol out of the reach of the average child.
The letter keys are 'soft touch'. You can leave the factory 'combination' or program one of your own. In the event your batteries go dead it has the option of providing 'power' via an external 9 volt battery connection thus enabling you to enter the combination and open the box.
I lined mine with a thin sheet of foam to protect the items I store inside. Scissors and glue - it's easy.
As I was building a storage cabinet out of pine I incorporated the box hidden behind a side panel. While the Homak comes pre-drilled with four mounting holes in the rear I drilled four more - two top and two bottom to secure it to the wooden shelves. It's undetectable to the casual observer, safe from kids, and due to it's location inside the cabinet a burglar would have to smash the heavy cabinet into pieces and likely spend 10-15 minutes doing so as there's not enough room to insert a pry-bar to get at it. A lot of effort and time spent breaking into a box with unknown contents (if any).
This box only opens via the combination lock. No key override and that's a GOOD THING. Too many YouTube videos out there showing 6 year old kids successfully breaking into key locks armed only with a paper clip. Plus the fact any 12 year old (or professional burglar) can order cheap 'master keys' off Ebay for cylinder locks. If a young...
