Papertiger308's Review of Steiner DBAL-I2 Dual Beam Aiming Laser Device

As expected, this version of the DBAL performs flawlessly in all settings. One should consider price when comparing like options, and any version of the DBAL is likely 4x+ what most civilians consider. As NV has gotten cheaper on the civilian market, these tools are becoming more viable. Having both a NV and daytime aiming point is great. If you do not use NV, you likely do not need such a model, however the performance and consistency of the daytime laser is better than any of the $200 range lasers I have personal experience with.
Controls are aces compared to cheaper imitations.
Tape switch is superior in operation and durability compared to cheaper imitations.
Mount height is made to clear an ACOG, some low mounted optics may have issues in close observations. I have mine mounted on an M4 clone with a Steiner M536. Needed to use the riser on the M536 in order to get clearance over the DBAL. Any mount with a center line at or above 1.5" should be kosher.
Pros:
  • performance
  • Mount
  • Tape Switch
  • Consistentcy
Cons:
  • would prefer low profile mount
Best Used for:
  • CQB
  • Night Operations
Would Recommend: Yes
