Holosun K Red Dot Footprint Compatibility Explained

The Holosun 507K (HS507K), Holosun 407K, EPS Carry, and EPS are very popular red dot sights that have grabbed the attention of the gun community for their innovation, durability, clarity, and useability on carry guns. These Holosun K footprint optics boast many features such as Shake-Awake technology, 50,000 hours of battery life, closed emitters (EPS Carry and EPS), Multi-Reticle Systems (MRS), and more, making them very desirable for concealed carry guns. However, these optics use a proprietary mounting footprint that leads to confusion on what they are be compatible with. This guide will provide information on the Holosun K footprint design, as well as compatibility regarding firearms and adapter plates.image

What Is the Holosun K Footprint?

Shield Compact Reflex Mini Red Dot SightsThe Holosun K footprint is a slightly modified version of the Shield RMSc (J-Point) footprint. The mounting holes between the two footprints are identical, meaning that optics cut for the Shield RMSc footprint will allow any Holosun K footprint optic to line up with the mounting holes. However, Holosun K Series optics will not mount directly to optic cuts that utilize front and rear recoil lugs. Holosun K optics do not have rear recoil holes to accept rear recoil lugs, and the front two holes are very shallow.

For example, the Glock 43X MOS comes from the factory with an optic-ready pistol slide designed to accept optics with the Shield RMSc footprint. However, its optic cut uses both front and rear recoil lugs that will not allow you to mount a Holosun K optic directly to the slide.

Adapter Plates & Slide Modification for Holosun K Optics

Holosun 407-507k Adapter for MOSSo, if your optic-ready slide is designed to fit the Shield RMSc footprint, how can you get a Holosun K red dot to fit? The most undesirable method is by modifying your pistol slide. This will involve completely milling or filing down the rear recoil lugs on your optic cut. You would then have to shorten the front recoil lugs to a certain extent in order to fit within the much shallower holes on Holosun K optics. This method will allow for the lowest possible deck height for the optic since no adapter plate is needed.

Adapter plates and red dot sight mounts are other options that are typically more desirable since modification to your slide is not required. These adapter plates are designed to fit your Shield RMSc optic cut slide and convert the footprint to be compatible with Holosun K footprint optics. C&H Precision, Holosun, and other companies manufacture adapter plates for common carry handguns that allow them to accept Holosun K footprint optics.

What if your handgun is not optic ready from the factory? If this is the case, you will need to purchase and install a Leupold DeltaPoint Pro dovetail adapter plate that replaces your rear sight completely. The DeltaPoint Pro footprint features the same dimensions for the mounting holes as the Shield RMSc and Holosun K footprint. You will then have to modify the adapter plate by removing the rear recoil lugs and shortening the front two. This will allow for any Holosun K footprint optic to mount to the adapter plate. If there is not a DeltaPoint adapter plate available for your handgun, your only option would be having your slide milled by a gunsmith for the Holosun K footprint.

Holosun K Footprint Directly-Compatible Handguns

SIG P365 Pistol SlideHolosun 507K (HS507K), Holosun 407K, EPS Carry, and EPS red dots will mount directly to any slide that is designed for the Shield RMSc or Leupold DeltaPoint Pro footprint that does not utilize recoil lugs.

Holosun 507K/Holosun 407K/EPS Carry:

  • SIG P365
  • SIG SAUER P365X
  • SIG P365XL
  • SIG P365 X-Macro
  • S&W Equalizer
  • Optic-Ready SIG P320
  • Any aftermarket slide that does not have recoil lugs and is cut for the Shield RMSc

Holosun EPS:

  • Optic-Ready SIG P320

The Holosun EPS and EPS Carry both use the Holosun K footprint. However, the EPS is dimensionally larger than the EPS Carry model, making it incompatible with optic-cut slides using the Shield RMSc footprint. The EPS will fit optic-ready slides that use the larger Leupold DeltaPoint Pro footprint if there are no recoil lugs.
