Is CSI and forensic the same?

Forensic investigators is an umbrella term for two categories: forensic scientists and crime scene investigators, often abbreviated as CSI. Forensic scientists usually have an academic science background. At the same time, crime scene investigators often start their careers in some branch of law enforcement.

Forensic science applies science to criminal and civil laws, mainly during a criminal investigation. Forensic scientists collect, preserve, and analyze scientific evidence during an examination. Some forensic scientists travel to the crime scene to collect the evidence themselves; others work in a laboratory, performing analysis on evidence brought to them by Crime Scene Investigators.
